ok i have a rat living behind/in my garage normally the dog would take care of it but he is 13 and to old i spent 60 bucks on traps and poison. so as a last ditch effort i purchased a nice 117 airgun i have a bit of experience with small game hunting but thats with squirrles and birds in the country. this rat is smart and is eating wires for my powertools. i just want help on the best way to bait it out i tried to flush it out the garage but that did not work i waited 2 hour at the spot were i see it the most but no luck please help me! :(

I have had the best luck using a bit of candied apple as bait. Caught 13 mice in 9 days in traps - used less than a quarter of the apple. Be sure to place any traps and especially poison where your dog cannot get to it. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif

My own mouse pogrom started when one chewed the refrigerator cord - Never figured out how they can chew through a live cord without electrocuting themselves. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/pinch.gif

I'd advice against poison, as Fonger said it might attract someone's pet and also the rat won't die instantly. It'll crawl into some hole, die there and begin to stink horribly as it decomposes.

Get a cat instead, they hunt rats and are also furry and adorable.

a closed bait trap - restricts pets - but rodents can enter - as a possibility

but you could always go Rube Goldberg and start off with a 12g shotty, night vision goggles, a motion detector and a large thermos of coffee . . .

wait up all night for the rat to show . . .

I like this plan...... Be sure to use bird shot, no choke on the shotgun, and possibly even cut down the barrel, so you get a nice spread out pattern......

I used 10 grams of C4, blew a hole in the floor and my ears were ringing for a few hours but I killed the rat, he was all over the room . I was proud, untill the neighbours started yapping about the noise. Edited by Werne
