TobyTravis
Can I complete the quest without starting the main quest-line? I am trying to stay clear of the main quest for as long as possible but want to be able to do the civil war quests, is it possible?

No, the stupid Jarl of Whiterun demands you to start the main quest.
csgators
I don't think there is much difference. The dragons will be there regardless.
TobyTravis
I'm level 23 now, not done ANY of the main quest, so no amulet for the court wizard and thus no dragons.

Ah thanks, someone else said they had dragons despite not doing the MQ. I was wondering about that. I want the house to much to avoid Whiterun and the dragons are so easy I see no reason to avoid them. If I could avoid trolls I would though. Yea but for me its the whole role-playing aspect of being dragonborn. At the moment I'm like a hard-ass mercenary and it just seems a bit weird for it to be like "Holy s***! A dragonborn! Savior of Skyrim and bane of the Dova! Say... could you go kill these wolves for me? They keep eating my crops- dragons can wait!"
TobyTravis
Do you have to start the main quest-line for doing it the stormcloak way?
Guss
You auto start the main quest until you reach the first town. from there you can choose to do it or just leave it there " at going to talk the jarl ". no dragons from what i seen putting 16 hours like that. Edited December 8, 2011 by Guss
