eugenenelson2011
As title says. After the last update I get 20 fps inside buildings and in major urban areas. I was running 60 fps limited prior to this and know for a fact I could get way more. If anyone else has this problem or can help shout out. Thanks in advance. archtrtd1
I, too, have been getting less than stellar fps since the update to 1.7.9 (and up). The drops seem to occur in specific locations around Concord (the first road to the left as you approach from the Red Rocket), Lexington (Corvega Assembly Plant), East Boston (East City Downs), and as I get closer to downtown Boston. I usually have 60 fps but will occasionally dip down to the low 30s. The fps drops seem to be when looking in certain directions - usually where there are a lot of buildings layered behind one another. I used to be able to play with all of the game settings on Ultra (except godrays and blur turned off - I don't care for those visual effects while playing) and only have a few dips into the mid 40s. Considering I am running two Superclocked Titan X cards in SLI, you could say that I am extremely disappointed and frustrated. I have tried switching to one card with no improvement. I am playing at 1440p resolution with an ENB. The framerate only differs by about 4 fps when I turn the ENB off. I've run my HW Monitor program while playing and know that I do not have any bottlenecking occurring between my processor (i7-5930k overclocked to 4.5 GHz) and graphics cards. I've gained a small amount of improvement by changing my fallout4prefs.ini entries: fDirShadowDistance=6000.0000 fShadowDistance=6000.0000iShadowMapResolution=2048 I've also updated my nvidia drivers to the 362.00 release and I refuse to go any newer based on the complaints from other 900 series customers. JimmyRJump
I'm having these issues in some enteriors as well as exteriors and with me it seems F4SE related (running v1.7.9 of FO4 with latest F4SE) since I don't have the issue when running the game through my "regular" .exe (Bilago's FO4 Configuration Tool) Worst I had it was in the corridors underneath the Old North Church on my way to "discovering" the RailRoad's lair. Took me an hour to get halfway through at an avergae of half a frame per second :D Strange thing is that it seems only so when doing a certain itinerary for the very first time (in my case anyway) as going back from where I came and then doing the same trail again results in normal game play and 60-ish fps (have my game capped at 61fps) until I get to the furthest point I reached before goinf back and it's an ultra slo-mo dia-fest again... I've reverted to using my Bilago .exe and only use the F4SE .exe when I need to tinker with "Place Everywhere" during building...
archtrtd1
Just curious, are the F4SE dependent plug-ins like Place Everywhere safe to add/remove? I wasn't sure if there was any information baked into the game save which could cause problems later. Also, I've discovered this Fallout4.ini edit was causing a huge amount of lag: bUseCombinedObjects=0 Once I switched it back to "1" my fps improved greatly. I'm still getting drops down into the mid 40's, but it's better than 30! I don't recommend changing this until a new/fresh play-through as it borked my Sanctuary settlement (caused all of the old buildings and plants to reappear in an unscrappable form). I've had this setting altered to its "0" variant straight off the bat in December last year. Back then it didn't cause any issues so I forgot all about its potential to slow things down/use quite a lot more RAM... As far as de-activating a plug-in goes: it's never a good idea to do that. A lot of the time it cause no directly visible issues but in the long run you can still run into problems weeks after having done away with this or that mod, simply because sometimes (a lot of the time) files have been altered by a mod and things are not set back to vanilla after that mod is gone, resulting in errors when those files that have been tampered with are being used. I haven't deactivated the Place Everywhere mod yet (have only started using it, finally, just a few weeks ago actually) so, I can't tell you if it's a good idea or not... Only thing I can tell is that, since I switch between FO4 .exe files (Place Everywhere doesn't work when not using the F4SE .exe) I haven't run into problems so far when starting the game with the Bilago .exe... archtrtd1
Apparently you only need the "bUseCombinedObjects=0 " line if you are using any mods that allow you to create settlements in new areas - not the vanilla locations. I'm going to start another new playthrough (ugh!) since bUseCombinedObjects=0 has ruined my current settlements. I'd rather have the game run smoothly. I still believe that the recent 1.7 updates have caused performance issues for me and other people - the game was a lot more stable for me prior to the changes. I also haven't made any edits to my load order (I always start a new game if I need to remove a mod), either. Well if I didn't also use the LooksMenu mod, I might consider ditching F4SE until Bethesda is done with all of the DLC/updates/patching. But, Place Everywhere is just so necessary when fixing up the settlements . . . I guess I'm stuck. :)

If the game runs acceptably that is all I am worried about. When I claimed Kingsport Lighthouse recently I had a little idea and installed about 40 ceiling lights on the ceiling. My FPS dropped to little more than a slideshow till I returned to ground level. It looks pretty though.
Timmiii
I'm like Jimmy, I first noticed the lag when I entered the North church, fps dropped to 3! I was like wtf? I disabled my most recently added mods, I had 48 plugins at that point. I got back up to 25-30 fps but I have run at 60 fps since the game came out. I only get 60 fps on load screens now. I jacked with the ini a bit, the usual changes everyone makes, no help. Nvidia Inspector helped some, triple buffer, speed limiter, vsync off... I went back to 1.6.9 before this started just a few days ago so I can't blame it on 1.7.Next I am going to bypass f4se to launch and see what effect, if any, that has.I am puzzled by this sudden hit in fps. archtrtd1
For some reason, the frame rate drops are very noticeable to me (even just from 60 to 55 fps). This game has caused some serious motion sickness for me in the past, but I have turned off the motion blur and a few other visual settings that seemed to cause it. I think the odd fps drops weren't helping, either. One of the main reasons I have two monster graphics cards is to be able to play newer games at a high and steady frame rate at 1440p (and maybe 4k later on). Ironically, I can play a very heavily modded Skyrim (towns, trees, grass, npcs, retextures) with the most demanding ENBs and stay close to 60 fps most of the time. I was expecting the Fallout 4 64 bit engine to run even better with my hardware. I'm also going to try playing without F4SE - although this seems counterintuitive to me because SKSE actually has fixes in it which, when enabled correctly, INCREASE performance. I highly doubt that F4SE is the cause.
