natelovesyou
I totally agree that archery is a bit broken...I can be a "decent" distance away from a hulking, enormous mammoth...I'll aim high, low, directly at it...no hits, ever. I once shot 20 arrows just to test it, not a single one registered, and I was in my opinion fairly close. I think it's a glitch or an oversight, after a certain distance...arrows just don't register anymore, or disappear. It pisses me off kinda too, it really nerfs the awesomeness and realism of archery. Ftumch
I have played 150+ hrs as a marksman and I think arrow trajectory works fine and takes gravity into effect, there is indeed a restriction on flight distance as others mentioned that can be tweaked in the ini file. The problem I have with archery is with bounding boxes when an enemy is engaged, If I shoot an arrow over the top of an enemies head I have noticed that it gets sucked in for a hit if it is close enough to them. The further I am away from them, the more likely it is that my arrow will be "sucked" in for a hit when in fact it should have missed. It means all those wicked headshots I've landed pretty much count for nothing as the whole system has been dummed down to ensure you hit more often than you should. This is only a problem when the enemy fully detect you. I don't notice the problem when I am fully or partially stealthed. I am assuming the problem is with bounding boxes or maybe there is some other deliberately designed mechanic that Beth has included to make archery more effective, as it sucked big time in Oblivion without mods. tazmo
come on guys, surely this is part of the game...! as an ex infantry marksman in her majesty's Royal Green Jackets, it would have been lovely not to have worried about windage, elevation AND the curve of the earth when making long range shots (1000yds+) so i am quite happy with adjusting the elevation i shoot at with an arrow kowing that it will rise and drop on target.practice makes perfect..! barrynor
Indeed, a straight line takes a lot of the fun out of it. It is why I enjoy using archery in Skyrim, or for that matter in Oblivion.
BarefootWarrior
Now that I have advanced with my archery skills I am really enjoying the challenge, especially with the long distance shots. More often then not, my ranging skills are pretty much dead on and trajectory. I have even gotten some great shots at dragons in flight, brought one down on top of the mages college, that was great fun. He literally fell out of the sky right on top of the college, after we had a good fight on the skybridge at close quarters. I particularly enjoy the long distance shots, I just dig my feet in, take a shot for range and go from there, Now my big issue is, I can't move fast enough when I have an arrow loaded, movement is very slow. I do see a perk for this, so has anyone gotten this perk? And can you move faster when you are trying to get in a good shot? I'd like to see this one aspect changed. agno
archery is a bit complicated.... all arrows are weightless in your inventory, but i believe the game engine applies psysics to themdifferently.... I am inclined to believe iron and steel arrows are "heavy" and sink more during flight than glass and elven, and thatebony is also heavy and sinks more than elven during flight. now I also think this aspect is tempered by your archery skill, meaning at skill 20, an iron or elven arrow sinks moreduring flight than either arrow fired at lvl 50 archery skill. It is so hard to be sure of this, but i have noticed arrow behaviour change as i replace steel with glass for ex,or run out of elven and start using iron again for ex... now as for auto targeting? I had no idea (PC gamer) I certainly dont believe its enabled by detault on pc game, frankly during some fights, when i slow time.... I deliberately try and fire a shaft into teh forehead and succeed, and sometimes i dont... the shaft flys right past the side of the head. disable auto aim if you can... (unless you use gamepads, cause gamepads suck)
macole
What I'd like to see is the realism elements from Oblivion's Duke Patricks Combat Archery mod combined with the fantasy elements of another Oblivion mod Ayleid Arcane Archer for extraordinary archery fun
