Can I pose a question.. (mainly to Americans, though it does happen in UK prisons, it is very uncommon!)

I see this encouraged very often: rape. Rape seems to be a socially acceptable and encouraged behaviour in some circumstances. Most notably people sentenced to prison. Now I have a rather large issue with anyone who even thinks this is acceptable in ANY circumstance. People get life for it outside prison, wtf is up with American society not just turning a blind eye, but encouraging it.

I know a guy. He did some time for non payment of fines. While he was in prison, he was subjected to rapes. This person is basically so f***ed up now I think he is actually incapable of any sort of self confidence what so ever. It totally ruined him. I knew him before he did his stint, and it's night and day. Then on the flip side I know people who brag about raping others in prison..

As if prison isn't bad enough. But it doesn't seem to be uncommon for someone to taunt another with the real possibility of going to prison... and then getting raped.

Is it OK to allow someone who has committed a crime to be raped? Do you encourage raping of prisoners?

What do you expect people to think? Most of society thinks its also okay to use prison only as a punishment system and they fully support any other inhumane acts.

:pinch:

With it's disproportionate numbers of convicts and huge prison population, and the encouragement of rape large proportions of the general public has, and it's busted legal system ( in conviction of a crime, wealth seems to be a major factor in deciding guilt). America is not equal. It loves to taut it's freedoms, justice and equality, I just can shake the hypocrisy of it's self image to how it actually conducts itself. And this is only domestically speaking.

NO, of cause it´s not all right. Being a criminal, does´nt mean that one should become a victim. Why should we have trials and justice then?

Should one get his life ruined because of such a silly crime as a fine for something?

Where I come from, doing time for a fine is not even in company with "hardcore" criminals, but rather you have to be there every day, do some work, with out being payed for it. That´s it. Even in our "hardcore departments" of the jails, such things as rape rarely occures, and if it does, the violater will have to stand trial once more for the crime, getting his sentence prolonged, and/or loose privileges.
