Kazevura
Hi guys, tried looking it up for similar problems to mine, couldn't find exactly the same problem, and as I went through issues on the internet, tried applying the solutions but for no avail. Here's the thing, I used to play Fallout 4 nicely before a couple events which were:Automatron's install;Patch 1.5.xx;A couple of mods; After these things, a gradual FPS drop started to happen during battles, my FPS was alright, about 50-60, then battle starts, shooting, explosions, whatever, even melee, it would reduce my fps for half, and the more the battle continued the more it reduced until it gets around 4-3 fps, then I have to reload. Curiously enough, when that starts happening and I retreat far away from where the conflict started, it gets normal again. (Something related to enemies?)Anyway, then I installed a interface mod which started crashing, uninstalled it, it started running again with the same issue as ever, uninstalled Automatron because it is a known DLC to make FPS go to hell, but had no effect.Things I've done:Switched between Vsync modes, through nVidia control panel, in-game and ENBoost;Tried to tweak iFPSClamp + FPSlimiter (ENBoost, Rivatuner), nothing;Tried to tweak ENBoost memory usage, used the vramsizetest provided at their site, game me 22k total vram, judged it would be good to have ENBoost avaiable memory for usage in-game on 8192MB, didn't really work.So I've waited, thought some update could help me out, some mod or whatever, but it never happened, I wanted to start playing again. What the hell is wrong with my game? Does anyone have a clue as to why is this happening, in this way specifically? Thanks for the support Edited August 22, 2016 by Kazevura
JimmyRJump
With every 'upgrade' Bethesda put forward, the game became slightly 'heavier' to handle. With v1.4/1.5 they introduced a form of streaming to load the game instead of a direct render, to more or less shorten loading times but with the reverse effect of being V-RAM hungry, resulting in stutter and fps drop. As far as ENBoost goes, you can set the enblocal.ini to the amount of V-RAM of your GPU, plus the total amount of system RAM, minus 6GB for OS, background programs and the game itself. I have 16GB of system RAM plus 8GB of V-RAM on the GPU which totals 24GB, minus 6GB is 18GB set in the .ini (18432MB, to be precise). You also should give ShadowBoost a try (link is on the Nexus ENBoost page) Another thing to consider is that, in a fight, when lots of things are going on at the same time, your load can get pretty heavy, especially with a lot of mods running that alter clothing/armour/weaponry/environment and some such, lowering fps as you go along. I am at v1.7.9 of the game and a lot of people have reported that later versions slow down the game to sometimes ridiculous framerates (some even have this issue with versions newer than the 1.6.9 one), so, if you can, revert to an older version. JimmyRJump
Depending on which DLC you'll need different updates of the game. I think all of them bar the VaultTec DLC work with v1.5.157 For the VaultTec DLC you'll need at least a 1.6 version, but I'm not sure about that (I had v1.5.4 when I got the DLC but the game was rather glitchy) nor about what version of the 1.6 update... I also advise folk to not update their GPU drivers until you start having problems or when a game really requires them. Newer doesn't always mean better... When adding load lists and stuff, best use the 'spoiler' option: hit the blue 'Special BBCode button, in-between the eraser and the 'Font' box, top left in the editor and then in the pop-up menu, choose 'Spoiler' from the list in the 'Please Select' box. Copy-paste whatever you want in the text-box. Testing and stuff to see if there's mods that affect fps isn't really necessary -you're free to do that of course- but checking mod pages to see the resolution of the used textures should do the trick. The thing is that the fps issues are most likely agaain of Bethesda's doing in preparing for their last FO4 DLC Nuka World (released on the 30th of August). Oncethe last DLC has been released, there will most probably come a final patch which hopefully will iron out most wrinkles. Though, knowing Bethesda, they'll probably take their tima and most likely introduce new bugs with their fix :D
Kazevura
Okay. I have disabled all mods, and have turned graphics options to low. Also deleted my .ini's so new ones could be generated.Turns out I think it was the .ini files, I have turned everything to ultra and kept the newly generated .ini files, and the gradual FPS drop was gone.Note that I have not enabled my mods again yet, I have been using a save that I had on survival mode, on a bed inside a house at Concord, right before the Deathclaw battle. During the battle, I would have the fps drops I mentioned, after deleting .ini files, the fps drops seem to have vanished.I'll turn every mod on once again, and in addition to that I'll post the defective .ini files here (in the spoiler quote), and the new ones, so anyone can compare and take conclusions. Also note that I have deleted Fallout4.ini, FalloutCustom.ini, and Fallout4Prefs.ini, so I'm not really sure which one made a difference.Defective JimmyRJump
The stuff about resolution, screensize, borderless yes or no, should be intiated/altered in the game's start-up menu, not in the .ini file. Plus, you're acting like an elephant in a porcelain shop, pardon the expression, as it is most likely, as said before, that your 'problems' come from the game's updated version(s). The only thing you would have to do is check if you have mods that add items with high polygon count and/or 2K and 4K texture mods and replace those with more GPU friendly versions, depending on your system. I mean, I was able to run the first release of the game in Ultra settings on a five year old ATI MSI R7970 Lightning (non Boost Edition). After the 1.5 release of the game I had to tone down to High settings and was forced to start using ENBoost because my GPU had 'only' 3GB of V-RAM which all of a sudden wasn't enough. After the 1.7 release (I skipped any 1.6 releases and went from 1.5.413 to 1.7.9, which I still use today) I had to add ShadowBoost and lower my settings to Medium and still had occasional crashes because of RAM-spikes. I bought an 8GB AMD MSI RX470 GamingX card this past Saturday just to get a GPU with more V-RAM. The card itself is on par with my old R7970 in the power department, but the 5GB extra V-RAM had me playng crash-free for the last couple of days on High settings again. Still the odd RAM-spike and the accompanying stutter, but no crashes and a decent more or less stable framerate of around 60 (got the fps capped at 61 in the enblocal.ini anyway). I sometimes suffer from ultra low framerates in certain areas, but in my case this was somehow due to the use of F4SE, aka FallOut 4 Script Extender, which I started using because it was the only way I could use the mod Place Everywhere as the latter needs F4SE to work... Kazevura
I sometimes suffer from ultra low framerates in certain areas, but in my case this was somehow due to the use of F4SE, aka FallOut 4 Script Extender, which I started using because it was the only way I could use the mod Place Everywhere as the latter needs F4SE to work...Hey man I'm sorry, I didn't want to make your statement seem small or any of that, nor was my intention to belittle your answers (if you ever felt like I did). I just got excited I found a fix for myself and wanted to instapost it. I understand what you have told me, and appreciate the effort of detailing it to such a stubborn person like me haha.I guess we'll see if Bethesda will show us some love in the end. I'll take double the time to pay attention to the matters you've talked about. Thank you for your attention, you were the only one to answer this topic after all, best of luck in your playthroughs. JimmyRJump
Nah, wasn't taking offence or felt belittled -why should I?- I just was a touch amazed while I watched someone galloping away in the distance in a cloud of dust while he should be trotting at a leisurly pace :D And as far as paying attention goes, hey, that's not for me to say you should or not. I keep by an older Native American saying: "You can take a horse to the water, but you can't make it drink". All we can do here is give pointers; and often learn something in the process ourselves.
