Anyone else LOVE the Thalmor?

You guys are getting it wrong. The Thalmor is the most powerful faction on Summerset Isle, but they are not representative of all the Altmer race.

If you read the history after the Oblivion Crisis, there was an internal strife within the Houses of Summerset Isle, whereby the Thalmor won the power struggle and became dominant. They revived the old Aldmeri Dominion and is bend on world conquest.

 

Bottomline is... not all high elves are evil and snobbish. Though in Skyrim... most of the Thalmor are portrayed as such. :sweat:

The Thalmor are a house which had power prior to the first Aldmeri Domminion's defeat by Talos. They came to power again after the fall of the Crystal Tower, which killed all the Altmer leaders.

I am just hoping for the chance to crush the Thalmor in an expansion. Almost as much as I would like the ability to totally destroy (no, not kill) Maven Blackbriar.

 

Even if you destroy the Dark Brotherhood, she still uses them as a threat to you when you chat with her in Riften. I know there is just a limited number of things they can do for all the NPCs and such, but I dunno, something about me especially playing a lawful-crush corruption type character just wants to see Maven squirm at the sight of me. I would really like to be able to legitimately clean up Riften as some of my characters.

Have to say I'm all for the thalmor. In every es game I've played I've been a high elf mage. Really wish I could side with them. They have the best looking robes, are the same race as me, and seem to be pretty smart, looking at how they have set all the human races against each other. Also if I'm completely honest i tend to be attracted to the side with the most power and that would be the dominion. Only thing I have against them would be the cleansing in valenwood, but due to bosmer hunters continuously attacking me in the wilds, my sympathy for them is waning.

The Thalmor are really quite arrogant. I remember this one emissary in the Markarth Caste talking something about superior breed, which made my blood boil.

I dont remember high elves normally being that arrogant and racist towards the other races.

I started to call them Elven Nazis. Of course one could also say that about the Stormcloaks, but they are a freedom fighting rebellion, not a greedy we-want-world-dominion superforce.

 

I have a feeling that the Thalmor will play a greater roll in an upcoming Addon...

I think the thalmor will be in a dlc as well, as the whole legend about the dragonborn says that they will bring an end to skyrims foe's as well as the end of alduin, so you will probably have to fight them at some point. Also I have heard the whole elven nazi thing before and it's true that the thalmor are like that but they are only one faction within the summerset isles and an extremist one at that. also I find all the races have some short of superior race thing. the Nords are unbelievably racist towards elves and believe themselves better than the other human races. the imperials and redguards both hate elves and see the nords as nothing more than barbaric savages. the Khajiit also believe they are better and especially hate the argonians. so this attitude isn't held by just the high elves.

I wouldn't say that. They are more power hungry than the rest, but I see just as much racism from about evey other race. The Nords hate about anything with pointy ears, for instance.

 

I can see many reason to not like the Thalmor, but racism is really not one of them. In Tamriel racism is as normal as everything else. Torture and hatred seem very common, as seen in about every TES game.

The Argonian's also don't like the Khajiit. Remember the one in Oblivion? "I'm a Khajiit in disguise, want to see me lick my butt?" Also, the Argonian's hate the Dark Elve's, vice versa. Because they invaded Black Marsh and made a lot of them slaves of Morrowind plantations.

 

I just don't like the High Elve's at all. In Oblivion and this game, most of them are arrogant (which made them the most fun to kill). I actually feel sympathy for the Dark Elve's though, since most of Morrowind is gone now.
