cantgobacknow
My character is level 12 and has a Debaser (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Debaser), which for some reason only has 2,400 charges (not 3,600). It had 0 charges, so I charged it in Cheydinhal. That cost me about 2,400 gold. I went from there to the Quickwater Cave. My first fight was with a Will-O-Wisp. The fight literally used every charge on my Debaser (all 2,400 gold worth), and the loot was only worth 40 gold. Is it really even worth trying to keep the item charged? Since I can't change weapons during a fight, and sometimes I get into fights with little to no warning, I either always use a magic item which will perpetually run out of charges, else I just don't charge the weapon. Fonger
filled soul gems are far cheaper to use to recharge than paying for it
FnimonSni
I use to make my own enchanted weapon with 1sec Soul Trap and Fire Damage or something, while I have Azuras Star. It's pretty effective.
NocturneNight
I use to make my own enchanted weapon with 1sec Soul Trap and Fire Damage or something, while I have Azuras Star. It's pretty effective. That's a good idea. Means the weapon will fill up your gems automatically without you needing to bother with Soul Trap. :) Just be careful so you have a good number of different sized gems; kinda annoying to notice you filled all your Grand Soul Gems with "petty" souls. ^^ Summary: No, it's not worth it. Use soul gems. :)

cantgobacknow
Since I can't change weapons during a fight... Actually, you can change your weapon whenever you want to unless you are currently attacking or in the air. I get an error saying I'm in combat, unless I happen to run and get a substantial distance between the enemy and I. I'm using the unofficial patch found on this site. Perhaps that affects what I notice?
