I just find consoles more convinient seeing as how I can just buy the game and start playing it, I wouldn't want to spend an extra $600 or so, for a good PC and then wait for it to download. But that's just me

You don't like to wait? Man the load times for consoles are enough to make me crazy. I bought a PS2 once upon a time just to play NCAA football and the load times were obscene. You can still buy most PC games on DVD and load them anyway. If you have a decent internet connection you can DL a game in a few hours, not much slower than driving down to the store and back and installing from disk.

Not mention all the things a PC can do and console can't.

But in reality most people's gaming experience started on consoles. I love PC gaming, but if it were not for Nintendo Entertainment System...I might be a lost soul today.

I have the Atari 2600 to thank for my current addiction. Consoles are a gateway drug, some people just stick to them because "they are safe", others move on to more hardcore things like PCs, modding, and overclocking.

You know it, started out on nintendo 64, now i'm almost exclusively a PC player.

Modding & Overclocking!

Load times are kind of a huge deal with the type of games I like to play. Mass Effect 1&2 had terrible load times on console. I used to have my guitar next to me to play during load screens! On PC they were almost instant by comparison. I wouldn't even have the patience to play Skyrim or Mass Effect on my console anymore.

Why?

I look through these forums and I see a lot of negativity towardd console players because we "ruined the elder scrolls series" and "console players aren't like PC players"

and stuff like that, I mean what did we do?

Elder Scrolls I : Arena - PC exclusive

Elder Scrolls II : Daggerfall - PC exclusive

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - PC game, ported somewhat poorly to XBox

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - PC game, ported decently to consoles

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - XBox game ported poorly to PC (WTF?), Creation Kit still not released.

Essentially, Elder scrolls fans who played the infinitely superior Morrowind and Oblivion PC experiences are feeling betrayed now, because Skyrim was made for 360, gets special treatment for 360, and was ported very poorly to the PC.

Elder Scrolls games have ALWAYS been PC games up to this point.

I don't hate console users, well maybe some of them. Everyone knows about the kind I'm talking about. The PC crowd's hate is more directed at the consoles and developers themselves. Game after game you see what could have been if it wasn't for the consoles putting the brakes on the advancement of games. However, typically console users are the types that want everything streamlined and have the "DO EVERYTHING FOR ME" attitude. Which results in a lot of games being dumbed down. Not all console users are bad, just the ones that have half a brain.

The PC is constantly getting the short end of the stick. Console users have to at least cut us some slack.

Why?

Plain old-fashioned bigotry and snobbery, basically. Same reason a lot of White people used to hate Black people and vice versa, or why a lot of rich people think they're better than poor people, or poor people think they're better than rich people. A lot of people just love to feel superior to others and will use any excuse to do so.

I'm a PC gamer through and through and have never owned a console, but the amount of hatred towards console gamers you regularly come across in PC circles gets real tired real quick.

Yes, Bethesda games get bogged down with some serious technical and design compromises in order to make the games more console-friendly. I guess some people misdirect their frustration and instead of venting against consoles and the companies that make them, they start hating the individuals who happen to play them.

You make a good, albeit sad, point.

But most of the issues disappear once you download some HD textures and plug in an xbox controller for windows (gamepads aren't just for consoles, people - PCs are great because they can do almost anything, and that includes supporting gamepads). Many parts of the game play way better with an analogue stick than they ever could on a binary input keyboard (eg. sneaking, lockpicking)

Yo dawg, Oblivion was definitely a console game ported to the PC.

Actualy, it was developed on PC initialy as they didn't have access to the 360/PS3 hardware for most of the development time. Having said that, the UI is clearly intended for Console.

The fact that consoles hold back our games is what gets people frustrated. All TES games up to morrowind had open cities for example, then in Oblivion all of a sudden we have to go through a load screen.

Also the limitation of the 360 disk space means that a lot less content can be included. (PS3 isn't as much of an issue due to Blu-Ray format.)

I don't look down on console players per se, but due to my work, (teacher for 12-16 year olds), I see it as a dumbing down of gamers.

10 years ago the average kid gamer was familiar with Windows, (and even other operating systems), general use of programs such as video/photo editing, how to do a specific search on browser-programs and even some html due to primarily gaming. These pupils were also a huge resource in regard to helping their fellow students. These days I have to teach the level below basics.

In other words playing on PC benefitted useful skills/knowledge for their academic career.
