Can't use mods?

So I've been trying to get the datafiles to work for me and in order to do that I've read elsewhere on this forum that I have to add

 

bShowAllResolutions=0

uLastAspectRatio=2

 

those two lines into the SkyrimPrefs file, however whenever I try to do that and save the file it won't let me since it says "access denied" and I'm not sure why.

 

Additionally, there is a possibility I'm just installing these files to the wrong place, so how am I supposed to access files when I download them? Where should I be saving them?

You need to Edit the files - Properties - Security - Permission 'Edit'

That doesn't seem to be the case =/

 

I have full control over the file based on the permissions that I can see under the security tab.

 

Anyone else have any ideas?

Are you using the proper 'SkyrimPref.ini' ? it is NOT the one in your Skyrim Installation folder, iirc.

 

It is in like \users\username\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim\

If it's telling you "access denied" and you're sure you have full admin rights then check and see if it's marked "Read Only", if it is then uncheck it. Here's a link that explains mods very nicely -
