xaliqen
I'm on my second play-through now. Sure, there are plenty of people who are kind enough in their way, but most anyone of importance seems mean and petty. The few friendly characters in the game are rare jewels indeed, and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a bit bleak and disheartening at times. Anyone else pine for a quirky Moira Brown or idealistic Veronica to lighten things up every once in awhile?
NSCReaver
I see it as just another facet of the harsh northlands, where life is tough and the people are tougher. However, I'd like seeing a few more energetic people, provided they were different from the aforementioned Moira Brown. Murdering a helpful quest-giver has rarely been so satisfying. Even after the attempt with the nuclear bomb failed.

I have yet to see someone smile for example, most are very unfriendly in their tone to you when speaking, yes some are helpful but its a harsh cold area with very tough people, and if I had been creating the province of the Nords, I would probably have made them exactly the same. Roxian
Well come to think of it, most people are sad or bored aswell. They want to get away from their farms, lot of them say they want to come with me and adventure. But I remember, of the top of my head, two jolly people. One works at the stables in Windhelm and Gwilin (I think is his name) resides in the little town Ivarstead. They both even say it's better to smile and be happy with what they have on this "beautiful" day. ^-^ But there's got to be more, I guess. You see, there are happy peeps in Skyrim. They just are, yeah, rare. :P And see someone smile? I married Vilkas and every time I enter the room he looks up in my direction and yes, there is a smile. Guess the only thing that makes the Nords happy is marriage. :D Edited November 30, 2011 by Roxian
GAOBR
Roxian, the only thing that makes a Nord happy is blood, sex and mead. Or the three together.

xaliqen
At least we know there will be some cheerful modders out there who will add a few quirky characters.

AbleGnome
Oblivion was bubbly compared to this depressed land. The personalities were much more diverse. Skyrim is a land of grouches and wimps with big mouths. I've saved and killed a few of them just for the emotional satisfaction. When I see a friendly dog, I just long for more of that. Maybe a pet giant would be nice. Even grim Fallout had lots of people who appreciated you or would talk to you with you trying to kill you.
