"If You're Wearing a Collar...

It was actually the kind of mindset colonial European Americans had to justify owning slaves. It's still a logic used by certain, usually racist, groups to this day.

Of course it's complete bullcrap

Yeah, I see how could read it as just the Pack's view of things, but at the time it really sounded to me like Bethesda trying to de-evil their game. "You can be a raider! With slaves!---Psst and by slaves we mean *willing* slaves. What do you think we are, monsters?"

Ohboy no, none of them are willing and they make it clear they don't like being slaves.

But you do get that scene right as you enter the park where they offer to let a slave go and the slave refuses because she'd die in the wasteland. And remember they are "traders." I could easily see Beth trying to spin the set-up as less slavery and more working for overly demanding boss.

Uh, that was the raider threatening to kick the slave out into the wasteland with no supplies, not the raider offering the slave freedom.

They're raiders. They're supposed to be insane and evil.

In fact, I'd argue they aren't evil enough... and they certainly don't allow the player to be as evil as they should have.

I was hoping this DLC would all you to take slaves when you raid settlements and make them work for you. You could capture NPCs as slaves in FO3, and I had hoped they would use this opportunity to allow you a little more freedom (pun absolutely intended) to explore the side of bastardry a little... but alas, it was not to be.

I guess I'm saying I don't really see the problem. People who take slaves have insufficient justification for taking slaves. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bethesda does not have secret, malicious designs to ruin everything you like.

I feel like I am having to say this way too often.

I'm hardly inzane. Track down my recent posts and you'll see my taking the inzane to task recently. But if there is something I expect Bethesda to ruin, it's the story and worldbuilding. I think that's warranted.

Hahaha, superb reference :P

I think it's fine, but there could always be more. I don't think that makes it bad, just... lacking... a little.

I'm currently clearing out Kiddie Kingdom. Funhouse made me feel sick IRL -- those spinning tunnels and the round room, oh man. Thanks Bethesda, 10/10, the game gave me a headache and nausea. I actually really like the level design of this expansion.

I'm sort of a ghouls-rights fanatic and I'm hoping that I can find some kind of peaceful resolution to coexist with the ghouls there, but I am not expecting much other than cleaning house and letting whichever gang take it over.

I want to make a feral ghoul sanctuary, dammit!

I really want to plant those farm plots south of the park and get some settlement action going on! I think people complained too much about settlements so they cut it out of this DLC.

Technically it IS freedom. Not on the conditions you or I would like, but nobody said they have to give the guy caps, weapons and a safe escort to Diamond City. Not only I wouldn't expect most raiders to, but honestly, most people in the wastelands don't seem to give half that much of a crap about a stranger.

I mean, with IIRC 1 (ONE!) notable exception if you pass a hard skill check, nobody even offers to give you any help or supplies even when you're about to go fight two dozen raiders on their behalf. Sure, just go storm the whole Corvega corvega in your vaultsuit and with that pipe pistol for us. I'm sure you'll do fine. We'll think about helping if... err.. I mean AFTER you come back. Maybe.

Can you actually imagine those guys giving someone supplies and an escort just because he doesn't like the place, when they're not even doing it for some guy who's about to risk his neck to rescue their spouse or something? Honestly, I don't.

Now mind you, I'm not saying that the Raiders are nice guys. And they're not supposed to. But the "just <bleep!> off if you don't like it" attitude not only seems in character, but really the baseline in the wasteland these days. Pretty much NOBODY is running a humanitarian charity, is all I'm saying.
