TrickyVein
Please explain how the DLC would have done anything to change how the engine reads normal maps, and furthermore how (if it did) this would crash your game. IF youre referring to my question its because nuka brought a crapload of CTD goodness to anything related to UI mods and settlements close to the newly opened worldspace. Wait - did you think for a second that UI mods and 'settlements' had anything to do with normal maps? I'm so sorry.
mmdestiny
Please explain how the DLC would have done anything to change how the engine reads normal maps, and furthermore how (if it did) this would crash your game. Couldn't tell you, other than people reported the same thing when patch 1.3 came out in February (or was 1.4 February?). No problems with their mod pre-patch, then the patch comes out and they're suddenly CTD when they construct the object, tracing it back to the dds profile the maps were saved under. CaptainCockerel
Someone said this to me yesterday and my normal maps are uncompressed as per what Bethesda did with the water surface normals. It could be a crash due to hitting a memory limit. I remember this happening a lot when Skyrim came out. Most people probably have 4gb cards, that isn't a bulletproof amount of texture memory. Deleted15964729User
The problems that started in one of the earlier updates was textures that were the wrong size crashed the game when it tried to load them (seems before 1.3 or whatever that update was the game ignored the texture if it was erronous is some way). I haven't had any problems at all with normals I've made. Have been using the Intel plugin to save the files since it was in early beta. I use the presets in the plugin that stuyk recommends on his website for specular and normals. Use BC7 usually for diffuse. Wish Bethesda would be less candid about what compressions and formats they recommend modders to use. Usually they say Elric will sort if out, but this is only if you use the CK and have an ESP point to the actual files in some way. Not sure what Elric does if you add files the CK doesn't detect via the json filelist feature. I guess this is all well and good if you use the CK that Bethesda wants you too, but since most modders don't and probably never will it's kinda bulldheaded to not offer alternatives. Oh, I guess I ranted there a bit, uh will show myself out
mmdestiny
Nvidia's photoshop plugin.Try using the Intel Texture Works Plugin. http://stuyk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3 Some export information there. This was very helpful back in the day when you posted it, but the link is 404 now. By chance did you relocate this tutorial anywhere?
