NightBlinder
I was blocked by someone.. wait sorry. *pulls up a mic and stands on stage infront of a circle of people* I.. am a victim of blocking. Blah blah blah feelings.. blah blah blah unfair.. blah blah blah justice for all. Now.. allow me to set alittle ground work for this, I was blocked by someone and I honestly can't remember talking to them or even downloading one of their mods. But every now and then I click a random hotfile and there I am introduced to a wall of bold red letters like the dirty blocked person I am. Now I don't feel strongly about this infact I've been blocked for awhile now and after my first sort of support questioning post, I forgot about it. But tonight I was invited to see that wall of text again and I now know or even botherd to back track and read whom owned the mod. I did alittle looking around and it seems afew people have been blocked by this person. I figured I better talk to this person to see whats going on but they removed any form of contact through messages and I'd rather not follow their posts and bother them there. So the question if not theme of this debate is. Is it right or fair to force a conversation to mend the bridge that was broken for the sake of unity, solidarity and/or piece of mind. Or should one respect the, I believe to be mistake for their singular synergy? ( I personally have no interest in resolving this "raw beef fam" as it doesn't bother me. As stated, please leave projection and personally feelings out of this as I have. I'm not using this to whine, complain or even do something about it. I just like the idea of conflict, as I am a rather giving person. To fix the problem I personally have that no one else does.. I have to bother someone who might have more problems then I and could even project their problems to others. What should one do?) HeyYou
Could ask one of the moderators to forward a message for you? Looking over your content, I don't really see any reason to block you..... but, some folks have thinner skin than others.... and don't take kindly to suggestions..... Or should one respect the, I believe to be mistake for their singular synergy? With all do respect, I think you are using the debates section to be able to comment on your own blocking which would perhaps get your thread closed in other forum areas. I think if you want resolution on this you are making a mistake. Now, were I you, I would sent a PM to SirSalami (the community manager) and ask him about the block. Explain what you have here and he can perhaps dig up the info. However, that being said mod authors have the ability to block anyone from their mods for any reason (or no reason at all) once the person has commented on one of them. They don't have to come up with any reason other than "because." I realize this seems somewhat unfair. This is the way it currently stands and has stood despite your (and others) questioning of it. The mod author's tools have been in place for many years now.The mod authors parleyed a long time to have these tools to allow more control over their mods and the comments on them. Some authors never block people or hide comments. Other block and hide because maybe a member sidetracked the file thread...some only do it for very trollish comments. Regardless, (and I was a moderator here for some time so I can speak for this, at least during my tenure) there have been very little complaints against the mod authors using their tools and much relief by mod authors for having them. Though the moderators do a great job here, sometimes things that mod authors find difficult in their mods don't necessarily break the Terms of Service of the site. So the mod authors have been given discretion. The site owner, Dark0ne (Robin Scott) has stated many times that moderation would not interfere with a mod authors right to control their own thread. Though I am sure there could be an extreme example of this that may get their attention, most things do not. So if you think this has been unfair and don't remember what happened, SirSalami may be of help to you. He may also be willing, should you see the need to extend an apology to the mod author, to pass on the message. I know that there are cases when this happens and the mod author will remove the block. Just remember that the moderators are not going to nay say the decision just because you disagree with the right of the mod authors to do block; and not engage with the person they blocked. So to answer your "debate" question. No I don't think a mod author should be forced to engage with the member they blocked. The moderators do not have the time or resources to do this. The moderation team is a small volunteer group. Regardless, mod authors have the right to control their threads and their content. Otherwise you get messes like at the Bethesda site where things totally get out of hand. If someone wishes to extend an apology in earnest I think just about any moderator would at least pass it along with nothing more than that. Ultimately, this is a game website and it offers a place for people to upload their work while still keeping control of it. We do not always get what we want in life and being blocked from a few mods is really not a big deal in the wider scheme of things. Extending respect for the right of mod authors to use these tools and not have to fight however many people get upset when it is done in my mind is a no brain-er. Realizing that modders do this as a fun hobby, typically mod for themselves and then out of the kindness of their hearts share with others is enough. They are under no obligation to share or change a mod to suit the vision or desire of someone else or indeed talk to anyone at all on this site. That many (in fact most) will do these things typically is a nice gesture. I hope that sheds some light on your question and I honestly hope that you will abandon this effort and talk to the community manager about your specific situation and not try to make a..well a debate out of something that I think is a personal matter better handled another way. Good luck.

I thought it would make an interesting conversation/debate, the idea of one being made a victim and villain all in one. So please I would ask you to take the question as is.. not as you assume it is. The basis of the question is ones personally morality versus anothers.. to resolve one you have yo disturb the other.
Aurielius
This is not a debate topic, it's thinly disguised whinging. Lisnpuppy gave you a fairly open honest explanation of the process. Author blocking of what they consider trolling was a hard fought for discretionary power. The alternative was an exodus of valued mod authors versus the feelings of entitled users who complain about free software. I personally do not block anything or anyone but understand why some other authors do so. There is an old rule of thumb on Nexus..if you have nothing positive or constructive to say about a mod..then move along. No one has ever been blocked for what they did not post in a mod thread. Look up your posting history and discern where the post that initiated this was and apologize, otherwise live with the consequences.
Vagrant0
Just going to close this thread. Not really a matter open for debate as doing so ventures into territory related to how this site is operated and this is not a good venue for such a discussion. Mod authors have every right to deny access to their content for whatever reason they wish, subjectively justified or not. They made the content, they spent the effort putting that content out there for others to use, most people would not then go individually preventing access to that content unless they felt they had a good reason. It doesn't even have to be something you posted to a thread they are related to, but could have just been a comment you left somewhere that they disliked enough to go through the trouble of adding you to a blocklist. Sorry, this is just how it is, and has to be in order to give people the ability to block others for the myriad of other reasons out there.
