Fallout Alternates One 44.1 [59]

Flowing entity avatars swirled in great patterns of glorious and-or dreadful patterning and hue filling the ever vast space created chosen as the current hub of resolution of unbalances.

There were expressions of the GreatOnes there, flickering trapped in status-ice reflections and in the antinatural grip of something not quite visible.

Something not quite visible, not quite invisible; they were expressions but powerful ones.

At the center floated Sarah Lyons and, in her arms being pressed against-between her breasts, was the RainbowBaby.

Voices spoke quietly or whispered; neither could ever quite be heard.

Things flickered in-out of existence but could never be totally seen.

There were tantalising hints of smell and other impressions.

The GreatBalancing was not trapped but floated exterior to the GreatOnes that were so. With it there were other free observers but it was near impossible to identify any of them.

Fallout Alternates: One 45.1 [60]

"Strange to think that these Wastelands are more filled with life than much of the world." Professor Sandimont stood partly hidden behind a half fallen house wall as she examined the Wastelands stretched out before her.

An environmental reclamation scientist, ERS, serving the Orderhood of Gaia, she was disguised as a common scavenger-trader. Her whole team was, including the armoured-armed guards, otherwise they would attract unwanted attention. That is from would be thieves and also from dominant hitech factions that might feel threatened.

She was speaking of the Deathlands that were the product of Doomsday superweapons where only a very few robotics and exotic unfriendlies dwelt. The OofG had sent three expeditions into different Deathlands and none had returned; that was over a century ago and none had been sent since.

A small herd of wild radcattle moved in the distance close to one of the fairly common RedRocket rocket shaped structures. It reflected the strange culture of PreDoomsday human civilisation with its paranoia, mad consumerism, growing shortages of vital resources, militarism and corporate domination. That was the capitalist west of the USA and a few other countries.

A male scientist, Lecturer Tangles, was carefully digging up a soil sample with an unusual colouring to it. The team had not been sent out because of the discovery but had begun to follow traces of it some days ago. Something was leaving a trail of highly toxic unknown substance, great drops of it, that even mutated radplants were having difficulty dealing with. There was also a feint 'dragging' trail mark of something quite big.

The trail indicated that the entity had seemingly come from the closest of the Deadlands.

A deathclaw roared a battle challenge in the distance. It seemed to come from the direction that the 'thing' had been heading towards.

The team clambered into its two junkbuggy disguised hybrid-electric 6x6 all terrain vehicles, having picked up all the local data that they could anyway. The vehicles had to move around obstacles, trying to pick up the toxic trail indicating the creature often just moved over them or smashed through them.

The toxic soaked corpse, of a big deathclaw, still twitched horribly as it lay next to a slowly rusting wreck of an atomic motorised family sedan car.

Other deathclaws were there, having smartly retreated to protect both deathclaw younglings and eggs. They did not appear in the mood to get close to the toxic corpse.

The team picked up the twitching body, placed it into a very heavy sealed, extra extra large, bodybag and departed before the living deathclaws could change their mind. They had guns, armour, but were not inclined to take on such terrible creatures, especially not one guarding eggs and younglings who were still highly agitated from losing their alpha female.

As for the toxic dragging thing, it continued on wards towards WashingtonCC. With increased caution, the team followed the unknown kind of entity even as darkness began to fall.

Soon after they were gone, three balancing-entities that had once been called orb-entities, reached that point as they cleaned up the toxic poisons left behind by the 'thing'. With them are three transformed, upgraded, no longer annoying, claptrap robots that have become wheelbots. The wheelbots assist in the task of forensics investigation and cleansing.

Fallout Alternates: One 46.1 [60]

SarahEle Lyons struck the power armoured Reyna with her own power armoured fist. Reyna fell backwards in such a way as that most of the energy was taken out of the blow. Even as she did, she spoke. "Stop! You do not know what the identity of the true traitor is, that is the great traitor amongst the GreatOnes. The true traitor has managed to infiltrate almost to the core of a range of scapegoats. Yes, I came from another alternative existence and I am seeking to meet the Rainbowbaby along with the original Sarah Lyons but it has to happen so that the terrible truth can be revealed but also proven."

SarahEle stopped attacking. "Sarah Lyons came to an important and informed those there you must not be allowed to meet the original Sarah Lyons."

Reyna spoke: "It was not a real avatar of Sarah Lyons! The real traitor is the GreatBalancing but the reason, for the treachery, does not appear to be straight forward and neither is the nature of the treachery; the GreatBalancing continues to carry out many positive actions as it would if it was not compromised but 'something' that is here but not here, more than invisible but troubling present. Yet it is not the only such entity for another, like it, is trapped in status-ice. Both came from an extremely alien existence to this one but it seems that the status-ice trapped one was chasing the other."

SarahEle frowned softly. "Like a law enforcer?"

Reyna shrugged. "The two entities appear to be far removed from such concepts but, perhaps, in its own way it is one of those. What ever it is, it appears to be trapped."

SarahEle frowned. "There is the one in the sealed off display alcove in the LSComplex Museum, as we have chosen to call that area."

Her mother responded drily. "A kind of reflection, a warning of sorts, or so the Mysterious Stranger informed me before sending me to the LSComplex. Inside the GreatBalancing there is a war going on as the real entity, of the core self, fights to free itself from the 'thing' that is controlling it to some degree. The CCSanctum is more complicated, and subtle, than most take it as."

A soft sparkling shimmer ran through the off-white environment around them. FEARIUs looked around themselves in calm concern being a mixture of many sorts but about half were robots and androids. The others were a mixture of FEARIOs, FEARITs and FEARIBs; that is operatives, troopers and cyborgs.

Reyna screamed out and shattered as her amazing illusionary reality was exposed. For an instance there was nothing there that was a dreaded something that should not have been there at all, that 'felt profoundly out of place'.

SarahEle sighed. "It was Reyna, in a terrible way, and yet it was not her. Dealing with this sort of thing gives me migraines."

Around them the off-white walls had changed enough to show various signs in multiple PreDoomsday languages still often used in PostDoomsday times. The signs spoke of them being in the Ultimate Futures Research and Development Facility, UFRDF, of the United World Special Projects Program of Projects, the UWSPPP.

Another sign had on it: REALITY IS AN OBSTACLE THAT CAN NOT ONLY BE OVERCOME BUT WHICH CAN BE TURNED INTO A PATH TOWARDS A BETTER TOMORROW. It was signed: Chairman Professor Samuel Harrington II.

SarahEle did not know why but the quote sent a cold chill down her spine.

A FEARIO kindly offered her a pill of a kind good for dealing with headaches, even migraines. SarahEle smiled warmly and kissed-hugged the FEARIO while not daring to say openly that she had been joking.

Fallout Alternates: One 47.1 [61]

SarahBos Lyons, and SarahIni Lyons, materialised as two new SLSuperclones with SarahBos at once taking charge of Lyons Pride and heading off to return to the CCCitadel; Lyons Pride Troopers had not been back home, with their families and others, for months and had more than earned some rest and recreation. Also they would be debriefed by OofS Command. SarahBos would discuss matters with Elder Owen Lyons and others of the OofS Leadership.

After they were gone, SarahIni Lyons began checking the great area of the off-white marble like material. She was a scientific investigator in some ways like Terry Lyons, sister of Sarah Lyons. With her was the Lyons Investigative being various specialists and generalists both. SarahEle Lyons had soon found that the quasimarble was not only vast it was maze like in nature as if designed to get intruders lost.

Some of the silvery doors opened to reveal useful service-support sets of chambers that serve-supported the basic needs of the forces that SarahEle still commanded overall. Now, though, she gained her own Lyons Fearless as her own elite follower unit that included the original Sarah001 superclone. As she moved, with Lyons Fearless following, she would meet with other FEARIUs including androids and robots. Yet she followed SarahIni who was following traces of odd energies and energy patterns with the help of very refined, sophisticated, supertech devices.

"We have encountered no balancing-entities since we came into the zone of false marble surfaces." SarahEle looked around herself. "There is something subtly odd about the very fabric of this place."

SarahIni nodded as if to both herself and her superclone sister. "The fake marble is not normal building material and neither are the silvery metallic doors and other features of this place. Nor is this place in a typical timespace relativity to the greater existence, if one can put it that way."

SarahEle nodded. "When it comes to putting such into words, it is as good as any other explanation that you could come up with."

One of the Lyons Investigative members nodded wisely as if he very well understood what they were saying though he did not. This earned him a hoped for hug-kiss.

SarahIni sighed. "The entity that was both our mother, and not our mother, was telling the truth but perhaps not the whole truth; I can not shake myself of this odd conviction."

The Mysterious Stranger, as a woman in power armour, with the visor up, spoke from where she was now standing. "Your convictions are correct though you did not meet that version of Reyna as SarahEle did. Of course, neither did you, SarahBos. That makes five SL Superclones now active being SarahAta, SarahEle, SarahUlt, SarahIni and SarahBos. That is SarahAta at Megaton, SarahBos heading towards the CCCitadel, SarahUlt in the SanasTerminus and the last two of you here, before me. The number is significant as is the order in which you appeared and the reasons that you appeared along with shifts in locations and responsibilities. Sarah Lyons is always with you, is always linking you, is always guiding you. I am the Steel Maiden, a particular combat specialised aspect of the Mysterious Stranger but I have many general areas of skill, knowledge and experience. I also have some neat tricks I can utilise."

The Steel Maiden took out a device like a shortsword but with a flat, blunt, squared off blade. She swung it through the air, flat sides facing up-down. Soon odd displays of lights began flickering on both flat sides of the device being identical to one another for the device did not have an up or down side.

Then she spoke. "To get any further we need to follow a trail of deliberately created, subtle, dimensional distortion and destabilisation patterns. Transdimensional 'bread crumbs' so to speak. I suggest that we make some special preparations before we start out as I will be able to open up some more of those doors to see what surprises that we can find."

The two superclones came up with nothing relevant enough to say at that moment so said nothing.

Fallout Alternates: One 48.1 [62]

"It wasn't really there but now it is really gone!" Scully looked at the alcove display that was now empty of an emptiness that still had the presence of something there that should not have been there. "Like the 'thing' that was both a version of Reyna Lyons and yet not her."

Reyna Lyons was her married name that she had kept even after her divorce from Owen Lyons. Why she had done so was conjecture though she had always shrugged it off as a convenience and nothing more. Truth was little was known about the real history of Reyna as much of the official data, in the Orderhood of Steel Archives, had proven to be false. Then again so had other data on other individuals, a few being OofS VIPs.

The new Investigators of Steel had found the Scribes of Steel, who managed the CCCitadel Archives, were reluctant to give them greater access until Elder Owen Lyons himself stepped in to have it so. As it was they still did not have complete access. Successful use of the secret monorail subway network had meant large, well protected, convoys travelling between the CCCitadel and LSComplex of CCSanctum. Scribes had been bringing Archive copied datafiles to the LSComplex and, along with Sages and other OofS people, had been doing much research in the complex. The cable-teleportation network was still being utilised as much as it safely, and efficiently, could be.

Walter Bishop was infatuated with the LSComplex Museum though he had spent much of his time tracking down more exotic finds in the newer levels of the museum. Sometimes he wished that there was more than one of him to do all that he wanted to do and that others needed him to do. Now he studied the empty display alcove with a look of mild consternation on his face.

Then he spoke. "We are, perhaps, overlooking the obvious because we have become entrapped in the details, in the complexities and in the subtleties of what we face."

Peter, his son, and Olivia his daughter in law, came towards them from a particular display showing the PreDoomsday history of the XFiles Investigation Agency. Skinner, and other Investigators of Steel, were still there learning things about the XFIA that even Skinner had never known about. For instance that only secret support by mysterious factions had allowed it to survive a brutal attack by powerful government factions. That was because the XFIA had managed to expose some secrets that had one those factions, and their allies, some terrible damage. Yet there had been the XFile Cold Cases being a big list of mysteries that the XFIA had not found answers to.

Peter spoke even as he came to a halt. "Greyyari were in constant contact with a great big PreDoomsday conspiracy just as the XFIA suspected but could never prove. Superweapons research development programs arose from the swapping of data and even prototypes. Grey-human hybrid technologies were developed, many being unstable and unreliable along with difficult to utilise effectively. There were traitors, in the XFIA, who made sure that the organisation failed to learn the full truth, and to gain strong evidence, when it came to such matters. Alan Olex, one of the founders of the XFIA, was also one of the traitors."

"Never did like that man!" Walter frowned. "He was always condescending to me."

Olivia smiled at Walter. "He was like that with most people and it helped him get forceful early retirement from the agency. It seemed that our secret supporters had cottoned onto the existence of traitors and helped to get rid of most of them before Doomsday came along."

With a soft sparkling shimmer the display alcove was suddenly full of a new display. There were three cylinder shelters being of different corporations that had seemingly duped many folks into thinking that a few US dollar coins could save them from Doomsday. Then there were two rarer types being an angular cube shaped one being government built and operated and a bigger, dome shaped one, as built-managed by VaultTek.

Fallout Alternates: One 48.2 [63]

It seemed, on the surface, to have no real meaning but Walter studied the display for a moment and then grin-smiled. "Astrid, we have some answers here, I think, to the dilemmas that face us."

Astrid came over to his side and gave him a very warm smile. "Excellent!" She passed to him a cup of tea, made just the way that he liked it. Which was when somebody shot it so that it was flung out of his grip and smashed onto the floor.

Three FEARICs flickered into view as they turned off their cloaking devices, all holding special carbines. Even as they did, one shot Astrid with a stun bullet and as she fell she became clearly the biosynth doppelganger that she had replaced the real Astrid.

Looking sleepy, and worried, the real Astrid typically raced to see if Walter was okay before she focused on her own needs.

Walter smiled. "Astrid, poor Astrid, I think that we need to get you to some medical aid. Then you can tell us about your life as a double agent serving both friendly, and unfriendly, factions outside of the XFIA. We found an odd display tucked away almost behind some others; it is about the true history of the XFIA."

Astrid sighed. "I wish that I could but somebody mind wiped me just before Doomsday and I do not even know who did the trick. All I have are some bits and pieces that returned to me when the balancing-entities transformed us. William Bell was there but in the background. David Robert Jones was the one that I dealt with more directly until one day he vanished, just like that. As for the other side, I met a woman called Ellen Generate who was my 'handler'. All that ended before Doomsday came but details are scant. I do remember helping to sabotage efforts made to sabotage the XFIA. I hunted and killed a handful of shapeshifters of more than one kind from more than one alternate. At first Walter annoyed me but then I fell in love with him and saved his life two times. I am a superclone of some kind."

Walter nodded. "I suspected something like that after I found you semiconscious and used some of my own instruments to examine you. I had to do so because I was worried about you."

Astrid snorted softly. "Any excuse to get my clothes off you dirty old man, you!"

Walter had the good decency to blush.

Astrid patted his cheek. "Don't worry about it. If I had not wanted you to do so, my automatic defences would have gone into action to stun but not to really hurt you."

Olivia sighed. "Very sweet but it seems that we have at least one doppelganger in the place."

Astrid shook her head. "Not just a doppelganger but a superdoppelganger for you see it was William Bell who helped create the biosynths in the first place, including the doppelgangers. The superdoppelgangers were a new idea, just before Doomsday, and a special purpose tech because for every superdoppelganger that can be made, the same resources can be used to make over 50 normal doppelgangers and over 200 standard biosynths. There were other special kinds of biosynth that were developed."

"William Bell was partly involved in inventing a kind of cloned biosynth of the Fast Encounter Assault Recon Infiltration Research Development Program that included also companion robots and androids. Bell was not pleased with the clones for he stated that they were too psychologically dependent and emotionally weak. I think he was wrong being a cold hearted fool who sometimes could be quite blinded by his arrogance."

Walter nodded. "Sounds like Bell! I wonder why I liked him as I did for as long as I did."

She sighed. "Because he changed and the reason was that 'something' got inside him, that he foolishly welcomed, and thus he became a real monster. My memories are coming back to me as time passes, are becoming clearer. The place that I went to to meet Bell's people, such as David Robert Jones, was made of fake marble like material and felt disturbing to be in if I staid there for too long."

The FEARICs had departed, having done their duty, being as reclusive as they often were.

Fallout Alternates Zero 11.1 [65]

SarahAta Lyons, and Lyons Valiant, settle nicely into Megaton. SarahAta meets with Professor Brown but only briefly when she is visiting Moira at her amazing establishment of exotic eccentric goods and services. When a large FEARIU group arrives, from the CCSanctum, they are hers to command and at once begin enlarging the LS Megaton Outpost.

In a sharp turn about, about half of the Investigators of Steel revert to being the XFiles Investigation Agency, the XFIA. The reason is a perceived greater need of independence, by a few former XFIA people, from the Orderhood of Steel.

The large Orderhood of Gaia group arrives at the LSComplex, of the CCSanctum, and are made welcome by Commander Alice Lyons. This is despite misgivings, about the OofG, by some strong OofS Factions.

SarahBos Lyons, and Lyons Pride, are travelling steadily towards the CCCitadel when a FEARIU force joins them, catching up to do so with the help of some balancing-entities. They are soon under the command of SarahBos. The travelling carries on through the secret monorail subway network with only some nasty surprises and hard challenges on the way.

SarahUlt, and Lyons Vanguard, are joined by a large FEARIU force that are taken to SanasTerminus by thirteen balancing-entities; SarahUlt is soon in command of the newcomers. They continue to investigate the area around the chamber of the status-ice trapped GreatOnes along with an aspect of the GreatBalancing that does not seem to be trapped; 'something' subtle warns SarahUlt to not allow even herself to go into that chamber, at least not for the moment.

SarahEle, SarahIni and the Steel Maiden investigate metallic doors, some of which the aspect, of the Mysterious Stranger, manages to open. They find status-containers, and more other kinds of containers, of equipment-supplies being mostly supplies, but also some more exotic devices. Yet nothing is found that the Steel Maiden considers to be greatly useful for their upcoming mission; they continue to seek such 'mysterious' resources. A convoy of FEARIUs takes equipment-supplies to the LSComplex.

Professor Annie Brandt writes, in an article in the Wastelands Enquirer, that there are unexplained differences in the PreDoomsday and PostDoomsday populations of humans; that is, even taking basic calculations of ghoul numbers along with other such counts, that there are too few humans in the Wastelands? Such as nuclear weapons would have disintegrated only so many bodies and only so many would have been buried. Where did billions of humans go? Responses, to the controversial genius, are mixed but she is far from the first to bring up the puzzle of the possible vanishing of billions of people and also other lifeforms.

The Fixmaker Lady returns to the radio studio of Galaxy 3DRadio and takes most of the newly arrived electric jugs off his hands and the studio even makes a small profit. Again the amazing woman does some impressive repair work in the studio area and not just in the technical way as she repairs a couch and does a small amount of plumbing.

Shadow-entities fight against burning-entities just north of the settlement of Sanctuary Hills and too close to the hidden LifeVault-111. An area of tough flora is damaged and the battle ends quickly in a stalemate.

Giggles is reunited with her parents, and older siblings, who are ghoulmans. At once they happily accept her but also the warnings about keeping a safe distance from Giggles when she dances.

A Reilly's Rangers team enters deeper into the great mall, of WashingtonCC, through the Museum of Natural History. This, especially the basement levels, is a stronghold of the Subwayers for there is a subway station below it. Many ghoulmans dwell in the museum structure where many exhibits are still in surprisingly good condition.
