Fallout Alternates One 14.1 [16]

Even as word came that a team, using the monorail train to travel along the only accessible tunnel of the secret monorail subway network, had ran into a collapsed area, Sarah Lyons found herself examining one of the shaperbeasts with a puzzled expression. Something glistening, purple-black, was slipping out of an orifice created for the purpose. The shaperbeast was semiconscious and peacefully in comfort. Then the creature, a humanoid, rose on its legs and looked at those looking at it.

A formation of Steel Troopers, and FEARIOs, held weapons but did not aim them directly at the creature.

Professor Walter Bishop aimed a sophisticated handscanner at the entity but then shook his head in wonder as he examined its small screen.

Major Sarah Lyons spoke. "I sense that you understand English and I sense no threat in you!"

The humanoid thing spoke with some notable difficulty. "Shapernoids we be, as related our way to shaperbeasts. Bioengineered before Doomsday, we were part of a great project to plunge into the depths of the NewEarth to discover its secrets. Shapernoids can remain inside shaperbeasts as humans can be inside vehicles, almost fully alike. Something went wrong, according to our species memories, for both we and the shaperbeasts, are of the same species. Trouble is that the species memories are blurred, even missing, in places as if some force tried to interfere with them. We know that long before humanity arose, on this world, that an ancient alliance of powerful beings existed, known as the GrandAncients. We have this knowledge because PreDoomsday humans found some shaperbeast genetic material in an ancient, very deep, abandoned GrandAncients city; at least one might call it a city for their idea of such was much different from your metropolises."

"We inherited the species memories and the PreDoomsday humans gained that knowledge which helped lead them to investigating the great depths further and perhaps helped the coming of Doomsday. We suspect that the sphere-entities come from the depths of the Earth. I must return to my vehicle to sleep, and heal, more for I was damaged in the attack that took place upon the shaperbeasts."

Then the creature slipped back into the orifice that it had come from, changing shape in a seemingly impossible way to do so. Soon it was vanished and the shaperbeast, now named Snugglibong, woke up and looked around tired eagerness for food. Grade-C MREs were soon being shovelled down two of its throats, much to Snugglibong's great delight. Ten stimpaks were also used on it, which it barely felt, and which would assist the shapernoid deep inside it.

Sarah spoke to the others there. "Shaper-entity genetics was used in my beloved clone-children and that helps them to the amazing things that they can do; it also drew them to sneak in the three shaperbeasts and to detect that inside each is one, or more, shapernoid. Inside Cutibong is an adult shapernoid but also two children. Inside Ticklibong is one shapernoid and a shaperbeast child that the shapernoid cares for because Ticklibong is quite young for one of its kind. The shaperbeasts chose their own names with some FEARIO assistance."

Olivia Dunham spoke. "The XFIA obtained a large transferal of datafiles from Fringe Division when it was disbanded rather treacherously. In the FD datafiles there were two that mentioned shaperbeasts, one of which spoke of shapernoids. Trouble was neither was rich in information, both depending on references to other data. FD had gained access to data kept secret by the suspect TekCorps with its often horrific and criminal research programs. It was SciTek that ran the program, of projects, involving the use of shaper genetic material found in that ancient, deep underground, 'city'."

It was at that moment that alarms began to screech through out the complex but this time the attack was very real and very big.

Fallout Alternates One 15.1 [17]

Supermutants attacked in a well coordinated, for them, offensive along three big tunnels. With them were slithering, toxic glop spitting, zyclops and monstrous mutthounds. Supermutants wore improved armour, fired heavier weapons the bigger they were and had heavier armour the bigger that they were. With them went heavy robots, heavily armoured but fairly slow, designed as much to resist damage from the supermutants as from their enemies or so it seemed. The foremost robots roared with the firing of heavy weapons including heavy energy weapons while others carried spare equipment-supplies for the whole force.

Smallest, most common, metamoths ran fastest and went ahead of megamoths. This was as much to avoid the bigger supermutants as for any tactical reasons. Then came bigger, fewer, slower but more powerful megamoths. Following them were even bigger, slower, more powerful hulkamoths. There were no, even bigger, behemoths for such would have had difficulty fitting into the tunnels.

Guns roared, missiles shot through the air along with bullets, shells, rockets and rocket-grenades. Energy weapons spat death-destruction. The attackers seemed surprised by what they encountered, driven to a halt when they saw the heavy LSComplex defences. It was as if they had not expected to find the complex and, given how it had been so suddenly and amazingly created, that in itself was no surprise.

The attackers began to withdraw almost at once but it was to turn out to be just the first stage in a much larger battle.

Just where were all the supermutants, and related creatures, coming from? They were not quite like the supermutants from LifeVault083 in Columbia that were the usual supermutant threats in that area. They were certainly more disciplined and better equipped. The attackers had taken dead, dying, creatures with them along with all of their resources except some few items that the Orderhood of Steel people were soon examining.

The captured enemy weapons, an autorifle and a big missile quadlauncher, were not the same as those used by the Orderhood and by a few other Wastelands Factions but they had some things in common, using a few of the same type parts and using the same types of standard ammunition including fusion cores and chargepacks. Something, about the weapons, niggled at Sarah's mind as she examined them but the answer did not come to her. Instead it was XFIA Agent Peter Bishop who identified them as WarTek weapons manufactured for mercenary corporations but, as the world crisis intensified, were supplied to the government; that was just before Doomsday when government was launching a major investigation into TekCorps activities.

Fallout Alternates One 16.1 [18]

Skirmishes began to take place all around the LSComplex in a 3D manner; there was even some fighting on the surface amongst ditches, barbed wire, and anti-machine obstacles where Soviets had battled, then became allied with, the Capitalist forces. Why? The vague histories spoke of the desperate alliance fighting a mysterious force that could easily have been made up of one, or more, zetan faction and the treacherous Enclavers.

Sarah longed to be out there, with the Lyons Pride, especially as she and her Lyons Pride Troopers were changing to become enhanced of mind-body-spirit; or so she found herself believing though she was not at all sure what 'spirit' actually meant. The Lyons Pride platoon went with her to the opening of the third blast-door of SafeVault 13-9/9. This time the revealed chamber was the last for the SafeVault as it stretched out before them with three alcoves on either side and another at the other end from the wheel-door.

The alcoves on the right hand side had typical lockers, equipment-supplies, facilities and much the same with some special items but nothing truly exotic.

The first alcove, on the left, had thirteen more XFIA people. The second alcove, on the left, had yet another thirteen XFIA people. The third such alcove had thirteen more unusual XFIA agents being dogs, androids and robots of specialised purposes along with one special cyborg being a brainbot of extraordinary computational creative abilities. The first XFIA were all service-support staff, the second thirteen were security people and then there was one cyborg brainbot, three special androids that were like the thirteen FEARIO androids, three special robots and six dogs.

The opposite end alcove had in it an experimental, first production model, cable-teleport station. It had three sending, three receiving and three special emergency cubicles. There was much promise in the CTS but the units took much 'juice to boost' up to a ready to use state, electric charge wise. The charging was only at 10% for each of the sending cubicles and was at 20% for the receiving cubicles for they needed less over all charge to receive than the other kind of cubicles had to send. The emergency cubicles were at 30% being given priority over the other types of cubicles.

The XFIA units were coming out of status, the androids and robots doing so very quickly with the brainbot soon to follow. The humans, and dogs, would take longer but that was only normal.

Sarah had a strong, subtle, impression that there was more to discover of SafeVault 13-9/9 and that it was very important but nothing was at all obvious. She realised that the whole of SafeVault 13, of the LSComplex, had to be rechecked but this time in a new manner with a more lateral thinking type approach.

Accidentally added terms 'OldEarth' and 'NewEarth' to this story. Now OldEarth means the PreDoomsday world and the NewEarth means the PostDoomsday world. As the story goes on these terms gain greater significance for reasons to be revealed in future writings.

Fallout Alternates One 17.1 [19]

Terry Lyons cable-teleported to the LSComplex from the CCCitadel. She came with only three other Followers of Steel being all security codes specialists. With her, though, came some large metal storage containers of valuable equipment, supplies and other important items. This included well shielded holotapes, datatapes, and other data storage items that cable-teleporting always had a chance of wiping clean.

They met in a small chamber in which a table and holotape projector had been placed.

Terry Lyons stood facing both Sarah Lyons and Alice Lyons who wore Orderhood military field fatigues as she did. She spoke with a grave tone of voice. "A large force of supermutants, mutthounds, zyclops and stormrobots drove a horde of ghouls towards the CCCitadel to wipe out PreDoomsday mine fields but the Orderhood had long deactivated them because they had proven to be dangerous to more harmless local life. Except that a very powerful EMP mine had somehow been overlooked. It exploded and its electromagnetic blast that struck the ghouls. Mostly they just fled, and dispersed, in fear but five collapsed and changed to expose themselves as these."

Terry clicked a remote control device for the holotape projector and it projected a holographic figure onto the table surface. It stood about average height for a human, or ghoulified human, but each was a sexless humanoid figure with a disturbing gridwork patterns running over its purplish grey body.

Terry snorted softly. "From data you managed to get to us, along with already stored data, we know they are biosynth doppelgangers as Robson was. They are damaged but are slowly self healing in secure capsules. A search was undertaken to discover any possible doppelganger intruders in the CCCitadel, though a few scoffed that the whole idea was impossible. 18 doppelgangers were exposed, one of them being a high ranking officer who was one of the objectors. A secondary search, for forms of control over humans and androids was conducted; the results were disturbing for thirty-eight humans were found to be subverted along with two replicant androids. Then sweeps were done of (the protected settlement of) Citadelburg and more infiltrators and subverted were found. Before larger scale sweeps, of the area, could take place the CCCitadel was attacked by the large force of supermutants, stormrobots, zyclops and mutthounds. You said that the doppelganger, disguised as Robson, spoke the word 'Venus' before he died and was then returned blended with the once living, human, Robson."

Alice frowned softly. "In the two decades, before Doomsday, it was whispered that secret space colonisation taskforces had been sent to Luna, Mars and even Venus along with possible others. They took with them versions of the GECK, Garden of Eden Creation Kits, each being altered to fit given off world environments. Small space outposts were already established on-in Luna, the two Martian moons of Phobos and Deimos, along with an orbital in geostationary orbit over Venus. If a colony had survived, at Venus, or had even expanded, could the Robson doppelganger had meant that?"

Professor Walter Bishop walked up to the three women and spoke as he did so. Astrid, his assistant, came with him. "Special versions of GECKs were only one of more interesting preparations made to make the Solar Colonies successful; a few dangerous prototype technologies and exotic artefacts went with the escape fleets. Trouble is trying to work out what space colonisation taskforce ended up with what. William Bell, a compatriot of mine who was a super genius who turned bad, informed me once that one of the more secretive 'institute factions' went to Venus and it took with them the ability to create biosynths, including doppelgangers. If those doppelganger biosynths are from Venus then it is most probable that there will be other horrible surprises out there such as other biosynths. Even non-doppelganger biosynths can be disguised, as lifeforms, very well; doppelgangers can change their appearance, even their general build, to some extent but the others can not. There is no good reason that non-doppelganger biosynths must also be shapeformed as humans."

The idea was understandably troubling for biosynths could be disguised as all kinds of threats including typical ones of the Wastelands such as supermutants and the creatures that fought alongside them. What couldn't they be disguised with, being secretly fitted with armour, weapons and other tech?

Sarah shook her head, being obviously bemused. "So we could have fake radcattle out there, or radroaches, suddenly attacking with weapons."

Walter sighed. "Not only that but such biosynths would be mostly more difficult to harm than the creatures they are disguised as; exceptions would be such as the deathclaws. I doubt that biosynths would be disguised as robots but that also is a possibility. Imagine, fake protectrons hiding in the subways but they would be weaker than real protectrons in some ways. EMP weapons should be able to expose if there are doppelganger and non-doppelganger biosynths out there. Matters could be worse than that but before concerning people, for no good reason, I need to do more research with more specially allocated resources including restricted data."

Which was when Sarah pulled out an EMPgun and shot both of the fake humans; even as the false Astrid, and false Walter, hit the floor they were completing their change back to looking like doppelganger biosynths.

Fallout Alternates One 18.1 [20]

The cyborg-biosynth android, Robson, had warned the newly appointed LSComplex Command Council of there being both doppelganger and infiltrators biosynth in the LSComplex though only a small number of the latter and a very small number of the former. Robson could 'sense' their presence in a fashion that he could not understand and it became decided then that one of his future roles would be to deal with biosynth threats. Yet he also had some positive information being a way of converting biosynths into 'friendly' units. Robson, Walter Bishop and others were working on this project using captured biosynths as test subjects while trying to keep them safe and secure as possible; they were but program enslaved puppets.

A an XFIA team, the agency continued for the moment under its old name, investigated SafeVault 13-9/9 of the LSComplex. At first they came up with nothing solid to support Sarah Lyon's sense that something was subtly amiss with the SafeVault. As it was infrequent cable-teleport sendings-receivings went on between the LSComplex and the cable-teleport station previous hidden below the known CCCitadel basement levels. As it was a whole new set of basement levels had been discovered beneath the great, heavily fortified, citadel and with it some surprises but mostly familiar type findings. It turned out that sendings-receivings were more energy efficient when done together with as equal an exchange of mass, living mass, as possible.

Sarah was concerned, rightly so, that the biosynth infiltrators had gotten so deeply into the supposedly heavily secured complex. Security sweeps continued to seek out subverted humans or androids, along with biosynths but also willing traitors.

The Lyons Pride Troopers were all enhanced specially but Sarah Lyons had gained exotic abilities that seemed to be slowly, steadily, growing both stronger and more refined. It came to her, as she was overseeing defence efforts against yet more enemy attacks, that she had always been 'different' but so had her four sisters and two brothers along with her parents and some other relations.

The FEARIOs appeared to be getting agitated, abashed, with her. At first just puzzled, Sarah became openly annoyed, hurting the feelings of Sarah001. After a very unprofessional hug of her clone-daughter, she found out what was going on.

The two were together in the enlarged FEARIO subcomplex where general operatives, and specialists, were busy at work doing typical FEARIO stuff. Yet what she could see, on big 3Dscreens was only part of what was going on; some of the 3Dscreens were blank.

Submajor Sarah001 spoke from where she stood. “There are roughly 100 FEARIOs in the complex including special elements. There are also roughly 100 Fast Encounter Assault Infiltration Artificers or FEARIAs. Then there are roughly 100 Fast Encounter Assault Troopers, FEARITs, in protection duties of she who was reluctant for you to know of her.”

The other 3Dscreens came to life to show FEARIO like figures working on big, exotic, mechanisms in a very large series of joined chambers. While Sarah noted big atomic power generators, atomic battery packs and some other technologies, most were a mystery to her.

Then she noted the presence of sphere-entities darting through the air around the exotic mechanisms or hovering obove them. She countered, with a little difficulty, thirteen of them.

Then she noted the other chamber being full of a great swirling, rainbow coloured mist with vague forms moving through it. Sleek power armoured figures appeared at times and somehow she knew they were FEARITs with their heavier armour-arms than those used by the FEARIOs.

Submajor Sarah001 actually blushed. “That special rainbow realm is a transdimensional one and it is in a special place being... both in but not inside the LSComplex.”

A puzzled Major Sarah smiled reassuringly. “Where is it!”

If possible, Sarah001 blushed even more as she pointed at Sarah Lyon's belly. “In your womb as you agreed for it to be in a very special dream. The Rainbowman made the agreement with you when you were just a six year old child. She is the Rainbowbaby. In return you gained much and are still doing so; you became the famed leader of the Lyons Pride who led them to many victories for the cause of the Orderhood of Steel. I do not know what rewards are coming to you next.”

Sarah smiled. “One great reward has been given already in the form of you superclones, being all of you. Now, what of the others?”
