Restart as Archer...

Hi,

First, I already spent 80 hours in Skyrim playing a Mage (WAY too easy... Even on highest difficulty!)

So I thought what would be the hardest type of character be and I came up with an archer.

I want to start an Archer. I want my main damage to come from my bow. That is my target, I don't want to use any melee weapons.

Is that posssible? Is there a guide already online? If it is possible, how would you play this char?

I hope you get my drift, I want to play a clean Archer and I hope you have some pointers for me...

Magic as a supporting gift is acceptable.

I really hope to get some feedback here, maybe even from some guys who already tried to play an archer.

THX,

Equi

I play as an archer, but also use my Katana sword for close quarters and magic sometimes. I do not use armor unless I really have to, travel light and rely on my archery skills as much as possible. Other then that, the Katana comes out and I'll fight with that. I think being an archer is more of a challenge and I certainly have to think things out a bit. I am not at level 22, just taking my time. I do have a companion and he uses his axe and shield to back me up in a close quarters fight and he also has a bow. Between the two of us, it does get interesting. I rely on him for the close quarters and I take my shots from behind...usually works out, and sometimes not. LOL! If we both get out the bows and start picking off targets, it is great fun.

But not sure being an archer is the kind of challenge you may want. I can stand back and stay out of fray if I want to...most of the time anyway.

It is certainly possible. Work like a magic-user character in general - out maneuver your foes, hit them, rinse and repeat.

The marksman perks are quite decent and increases your bow damage. If you are a stealth type, invest in Sneak and sneak attacks from your arrows are deadly.

You might want to explore alchemy which allows you to produce potions that duplicate effects of magic. (Except Destruction)

Also, you can create powerful poison to lace your arrows. The possibilities are great. Assuming you are tired of magic already. Ha.

for me there's no such thing as a "true" archer. unless it's a stealthy sneak attack archer. the closest i could come to is an archer that uses a bow till they get close then facesmack em' with said bow & draws a dagger to finish them off. had a few chars like that. oddly enough not in skyrim though. (deadly reflex mod for oblivion)

with stealth archery is very overpowered.... against single mobs.

Invest in the right hand branch of stealth, and get all the damage+ speed increase perks for archery and you should be fine

Magic is easiest, then archery. Archery could even rival magic after Smithing is maxed so you can make a Daedric Bow and then upgrade it to Legendary with max buffs to increase the smithing effects. Plus, using Elixirs of Archery for a +50% damage bonus plus Enchantments on the appropriate apparel would buff it hugely.

If you want a challenge, do melee. It's quite challenging, I got my butt kicked WAY more as a melee character than I EVER did using magic or archery. The fact that you're taking so much damage and that you have to get close makes it quite difficult! But it also makes you feel like a bad-a, and it's quite satisfying. Plus, if you like finishers, those are awesome.

Thank you for all your replys. I get the drift... Archer is not a hard character to play in Skyrim :(

I started playing and after 3 hours I have to say, I agree. It is actually easier than a Mage...

So I will have to keep on looking for a challenge, or even wait for the Creation Kit... No Challenge left I think :(

Agreed I rarely like playing melee toons but I'm considering in this game as magic is so overpowered and archery seems even more so.

I hope for a mod later on that increases the challange in a good way. Something that balances increased challange with increased reward. Something like Hell difficulty in Diablo II.

Maybe give all mobs epic weapons that has a 99% chance of being destroyed after you kill them (would make it worth to turn the mode on as you might actually get some of these awesome weapons).
