The Creation Kit

When i heard that it has been announced to be released within January, my reaction was disgust. I find that the Beth team knew it would take that long to produce the Creation Kit, they knew over 30% of the PC community would have not purchased the game our would have waited. I think what they did is both sick and disgusting towards the consumers and the series. The Bethesda corporation has lost my money for any releases EVER in the future. I will never buy one single product from their arsenal ever again.

I posted a similar thread on the beth forums, removed in less than one minute.

Who's with me?

Soo, because they do not release a free tool according to your schedule, you are not going to buy more stuff from them? Kidding, right?

The game they created is easily the best game of 2011. They are willing to release the modding toolkit for the game as a bonus, which - you would know, would you have a clue about the work involved in these things - is quite a complex and complicated piece of software in itself.

Get a hold of yourself and get a grip of reality man. Be glad you get modding tools to begin with. Knee jerk reactions like yours is why some companies just do not bother doing anything extra. Why waste your time and resources on providing extra stuff, when all you get is clueless kids flaming over you not meeting some made up deadlines or overhyped expectations.

Suddenly, we get patches that don't fix anything while the company concentrates on satisfying their XBox players, who are a transient fanbase anyway.

At least we buy the game and avoid them getting out of business:

PC folks talk a lot but they don't put their money where their words are.

I think it might take me until January just to beat the bloody game anyway.

Seriously though, the game is setup for modding. They have in no way 'betrayed' us by releasing the CK immediately (2 month delay, really, we are complaining about 2 months?). To be frank the GECK was buggy (and cumbersome, by gods), even after updates with NV. I've very little experience with the Oblivion CS mind you, but still, the GECK is a more 'recent' CK tool, and it was not a finely honed tool, more of a kitbash lever suitable for developers (and likely reflective of the team they've had for years). The new CK (which they probably used to make the game) was not likely in a condition to the used externally. The fact that it is not ready is likely due to the need to add polish and functionality that internally (to Bethesda) was not required, but will only make the program better and more user-friendly for the modding community. I quite happy to wait, especially if waiting means I don't have a bashed-together GECK clone.

They have also stated that mods can be used both on and off the Steam cloud/group. The way the folders are setup seems indicative of that at any rate.

Before you quote VGChartz, remember they don't report digital sales. Meaning that Steam (and other online retailers) sales aren't included in there, and Steam alone consist of anywhere between 40-90% of total PC sales. Assuming a conservative 50%, this puts the PC over the PS3 version.

I assure you nearly everyone here has bought the game. So them "PC folks" definitely are putting up the money. And like it was stated that chart does not count steam digital purchases.

And do you honestly think even 360,000 is a small number of buyers(the amount of PC retail purchase)? That is $21,600,000 in sales. Add in European buyers and that's another 285k PC sales. Get a clue, really.

With regards to the GECK it had more problems than TES3CS or TES4CS, most notably the non-functional syntax checker in the script editor. I hope the script editor works properly this time.

As far as "adding polish & functionality", I believe it is more likely to do with Bethesda ripping out parts of the CK that use third party SDK's that they CANNOT legally re-distribute.

Steam + Mods = Bad Idea IMHO

I cannot believe this is even a topic. I mean, REALLY?! This reminds me of when I was 7 (almost 30 years ago) and got pissed at my grandparents for getting me a lousy FM radio headset for Christmas. A) at least they got me something they thought I would enjoy, even if they were out of touch, and B) it's not like I paid for it, so what the hell was I bitching about. If the only reason you bought Skyrim literally and truly was because you thought you'd be modding it on day one, then I highly suggest you go back to Morroblivion, or better yet GMod. I got the game because it looked incredible, and I wanted to enjoy the most advanced and massive RPG to date. Skyrim = best game yet. And obviously Bethesda intended from the start for there to be incredible and massive fan-made mods -- look at the fact that Morrowind and Cyrodil are in the landmass!!!! So quit whining, you damn spoiled brats! Look at it this way: Bethesda gave us two full months to enjoy their work and what they did so we would have a better understanding of it and what exactly we wanted to mod.
