grbosch Posted December 2, 2011 Share Posted December 2, 2011 I love it. Sure, I get angry about CTD. Yes, I said many unkind things when I watched a dragon fly backwards INTO a mountain last night. I have also been known to suggest that Steam can attempt to perform various anatomically impossible acts when I see "Error - Your game is currently unavailable. Please try again later" upon start up. I do not like the game being tied to steam but that is Bethesda's call it is their game, gameplay or gameplaying should be my choice after paying for it. The steam regs and legalities of tying the ck to steam is a slippery slope I wish Beth had not embarked upon, the unintended consequences will be most likely enormously detrimental to the future of modding great rpg games like the TES series. Such as someone else posting your mod to the workshop and then you being sued for copyright infringement for posting it to the nexus if any money has changed hands, however little. ginnyfizz Posted December 2, 2011 Share Posted December 2, 2011 No matter what game, and no matter what forum of a game you go to, you will always find complains.The reason for that is that haters sit on forums and complain about the game, while those who love the game spends time actually playing the game. A teacher i once had long ago said that a satisfied customer will tell about his experience to 3 friends. A dissatisfied customer will tell about his experience to atleast 9 people. I love the game. You cant really compair it to any other game in my opinion, that would just be unfair for the other games :P Well as a matter of fact, I have clocked up about 80 hours Skyrim in between bouts of real life, so stop with your sweeping statements please. For once I agree with Marharth, just because you have some criticisms doesn't mean that you hate the game. Nevertheless, Bethesda should be taking very good note of what your teacher said about satisfied and dissatisfied customers. Their reputation is not being helped by this buggy release. The more I read these things, the less I feel left out not having a good enough pc for it. Also, the more likely I am to just wait for GOTY and most of the bugs to be gone. Handofbane Posted December 2, 2011 Share Posted December 2, 2011 As a free-standing game, Skyrim is decent, not incredible, but definitely not terrible. As an Elder Scrolls game, it falls short. The story is a bit weak and stereotyped, characters are extremely shallow for the most part, many mechanics are missing, unsatisfying or half-done (spellcrafting, marriage, followers), the user interface is downright awful (especially with keyboard/mouse), and quest lines are far too short with no real sense of having *earned* that new faction leadership position. All that said, the game was the most stable release I had ever seen with a Bethesda tag on it, I literally had zero crashes til the Steam patch locking the exe, though it has gone downhill from there. With the latest patch, my game has become extremely unstable, many more things are broken that were not before, and it refused to recognize several of my most recent prepatch save games even existed, despite them still being in the save folder, including autosaves and the quicksave, forcing effectively a 1-2 hour rollback on my gameplay (which might not have been so bad had it not included a difficult Daedric quest and the purchase/redecoration of a house). All that said, did I like Skyrim? Yes. Do I like it now? Not really, though I am trying to be patient playing other games til the new patch arrives hopefully fixing what they manage to break this time around. This. The environment is also rather unresponsive w/regards to the player's achievements. I ask this because i you look at the other games and understand what was in them for you, you might find some of it in Skyrim.
