vurt
I've notitced that fileplanet, strategy informer and some other site has uploaded my mod. Is this even legal? The permission i've given clearly states "You are not allowed to upload this file to other sites under any circumstances". I find this quite annoying. I'm not interested in having my mod on sites where i have no control over the content. I want users to always have access to the latest version and not some outdated old version that i have no interest in sharing, at least not on other sites than Skyrim Nexus (where at least its possible to see that a file is outdated). Well, that is the problem with publishing something on the internet. You have stated clearly that they are not allowed to do this, to no avail. Maybe some members of these sites uploaded it. Try writing directly to the site administrators and request to take your mod down immediately. Due to at least two national copyright laws applying here, these matters are, from a legal point of view, very tricky to counter. Good luck. vurt
I'm mostly curious if this is automated by the sites themselves or if it's members who uploads the files to those sites. If i take a look on fileplanet it doesnt say for example that any specific user has uploaded it, so to me it seems like its Fileplanet themselves who's uploading from here. If that's the case i think it would be of interest to the owner/s of Skyrim Nexus, maybe they should try contacting those sites, i'm sure they arent interested at all in having "their" content uploaded to other sites. CampanaAliquanta
Nexus don't own the downloadable content that users put up. If someone else is downloading your content and putting it somewhere else, it's up to you to investigate and see if you can take action against it, should you feel it's required. vurt
I didnt say they own the content, but If i had a site like Nexus i would be very concerned if other sites took use of what other people have uploaded to my site, if the users has stated that it should only be uploaded to that particular site.. It means less income for Nexus too in the long run if people no longer needs to come here, and less control for the modders who wants users to always have the latest version etc.
Ghogiel
This sort of behaviour gets those sites blacklisted on the nexus. I don't suppose you have been following the Gmod, and the dozen other 'this site is stealing content' threads on here. It is well known issue. and the only thing that the nexus has done is blacklist those sites and/or redirect any crawler that systematically just DLs all content to the blocked page/ block direct DL links that bypass the mod front page. it's the usual around here. It is up to you personally to protect your work from being illegally copied and uploaded elsewhere. Unfortunately you ave to send that email to ask for it to be taken down. hexorcist
I actually sent an email to their VP of Content 2 day ago regarding my file (Alchemy Assistant), with no reply yet and it's still on their site. Note that they're owned by IGN - a US based company. They probably wont even bother with it until they receive C&D letters. vurt
yeah that's what i'm thinking too, there's no reason they should care if send them an email, i think they'd care more if a site owner is threatening them to take actions.

Should just throw together a fancy looking word doc as a C&D even if it isn't backed by a lawyer just to get their attention. Or better yet, start calling their corporate offices. 415.896.3700 I'd start off asking if the operator (assuming its a person and not a machine) knows who to contact about publishing/copyright complaints. Otherwise ask to speak to Peer Schneider the Publisher and SVP of Content then bring up your unauthurized publishing complaint.
