Deseoso
Okay so I took a long break from playing Fallout 4. I used to play it maybe a year ago and it always worked on my machine with all graphics set on Ultra. Then a couple weeks ago I decided to get back into Fallout 4. I reinstalled it on my machine and I installed a bunch of mods. All the mods that I installed used to work fine on my game so I was pretty sure there would be no problems. The game starts up fine but it crashes every time I try and start a new game. I spent the last couple weeks trying to find what mod was affecting it but I had no luck. Last night I decided to try something new. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it on my machine and tried to start a new game without any mods at all. As soon as I click to start a new game, it crashes to the desktop. So now I know that the problem is with the game and not with the mods. Can anyone suggest where to begin trying to troubleshoot this as I have a machine that should be able to easily run the game yet it crashes every time? I have already reinstalled the game once and after it crashed last time I also clicked on its properties in Steam and selected to verify the game cashe. Still nothing. I spent good money on the Far Harbour DLC and I cannot even start the game to play it. Edited September 8, 2016 by Deseoso
soupdragon1234
It goes through phases of simply working for me and I have a day pulling my hair out trying to get it working again then it'll suddenly start working fine again until it craps out and I have to another day or two trying to stop it CTD-ing again. After the latest official update all the saves from the last couple of days simply refused to load anymore and would cause insta-CTD's although old ones were fine. If you're starting again from scratch make sure you delete all the .ini files from My Documents as well the one in %AppData% as they'll likely cause CTD's if left behind Fallout4Custom.ini in particular is a repeat offender. Then go into Mods from the Main Menu download whatever you may have from Bethesda.net as that sets up the .ini files up correctly for mods and go from there. But anyway good luck buddy you're going to need it. I've never known any title from any developer to be quite so crash prone or bugged out as this one.
