darthsloth74
Ok let me point out that despite bugs I actually like Skyrim. I like the feel of the world, the art style, the more unique designs etc. Unfortunately despite all the good things something feels fatally flawed. All my characters feel like a jack of trades and I don't feel I ever really emphasise with my character. Despite Oblivion's levelling system and kind of strange things like Bandits in Glass and Daedric armour I think my various characters were more unique. Yes I know the new perk tree in Skyrim lets you focus on specific aspects and you can be quite rigid in levelling if you stick to those, but the problem is my Mage can quite easily start to get good with a sword, or be proficient at wearing armor. More choice and less restrictions seems like a bit of a cop out. Maybe I'm just old fashioned and this is the new direction of RPG's. At least when I played Morrowind I felt my character was truly individual and to be honest I miss the kind of questlines where you could be a Lay Healer for the Nine Divines. One game I played an Argonian whose only mission in life was diving under the water looking for junk and selling pearls and other items to traders. Boring to some but it felt like roleplaying to me. I enjoy a good monster hunt down a dungeon but in some ways that seems like all Skyrim has to offer. All the guild questline are notoriously short compared to the previous TES games and despite enjoying the main quest I don't want to have to start every game being the Dragonborn because in an RPG I want to choose my own profession. Avoiding the main questline isn't entirely possible either if you try to do the Imperial or Stormcloak missions since at some point you must go to Whiterun, stop the dragon thereby starting all those spawns of dragons all over the world. Any suggestions on ways to find more roleplaying type stuff to do in this game would be helpful. I wonder if any players who have played Obliviion and Morrowind feel the same about this. PsYchotic666Joker
yea i gotta agree, but unlike you even in oblivion i felt the same way because of the way you could join all factions and still be a jack of all trades, it annoyed me, and it's even worse in skyrim i think, i also miss how each faction you needed skills at a certain level in order proceed or even rank up :/ don't get me wrong i really do like the game, i just started over from my lvl 41, 20 now, but i think i'm gonna stop and take a break till january or so :/
Sabatasso
This game needs modding in several areas to become half decent for anyone who wants a real adventure. Read into that what you will, but just take one quick look at the perks and give a little time to let them sink in. Most of them are simply stupid, unless you find it logical that you first need to learn how to backstab extra hard before you can learn how to snipe with a bow. As if the two "skills" was even remotely related in any way. The graphics and atmosphere is just perfect, though. And I am sure once the SDK has been available a week or so, the game will be fantastic after numerous nexus downloads. Moredhel
Yeah, sounds like my rant about the factions in an other topic. It sucks that a ME SMASH! RRHAAAAH!!!-Orc (awesome way of playing if you're used to sneaking around!) can easily become the Arch-Mage with casting so much as one lousy spell to enter the College :\ Skyrim should have had the Morrowind kind of way:- suck at magic? You cannot advance at the mages without training.- heavy armor? Tough, no thieves guild for you, friend!- fancy pansy spellcaster? Fighters laugh you out of the guild! That's the best way to have individual chars, not the way it's been since Oblivion.
PsYchotic666Joker
I just remembered that it has no effect when you join many or even all the factions, as in morrowind had tons now we got just 4 or so, and you couldn't join all because some hated others and you did things that would take effect on the other ( i.e. fighters guild and thieves guild faction wars ) morrowind also had 'houses' you could join and even create your own stronghold ...ok damnit i'm installing morrowind and my 200+ mods again, all this takin makin me want to play again -.-
darthsloth74
Well if playing a Barbarian Skyrim is awesome its so very Conan in so many ways. The thing is other stuff bugs me like, I want to summon a whole bunch of skeleton troops as a Necromancer not just one conjured assistant. In fact theres another one why can't I join the Necromancer faction. If I wear their robes for all intents and purposes I am one. If I become a Vampire why do all other vampires attack me and I can't sleep in their lairs. Why isn't there a proper skill tree for cooking. Why can't I sell cooked items at a profit? Why can't I join the Disciples of Stendar or the Silver Blades. I'm not going to turn this into a rant fest but I'm a loss to understand why these issues are so obvious to me so quickly. Also I remember someone saying before the release of the game that working for mill owners etc stimulated the economy and you were rumoured to be able to burn farms and terrorise locals, that seems to have been a shameful lie but it sounded like a potentially good thing. vertex23
So another Beth game needs to be modded out the wazoo in order to be enjoyable? Is anyone really all that surprised at this point? The aim is obviously at console gamers because those guys buy anything while the PC gamers are left wondering "Should we be getting paid for this amount of work?" At least the game looks better in several areas. The point I'm making is are there other options that maybe I haven't discovered yet or maybe it just relies on needing a different mindset when choosing perks etc.
Brittainy
I agree. And although I DO find myself able to role-play very easily in Oblivion, even there it irks me that I really can do...well...everything. And that just isn't immersive. If I side with one faction, then I want to have to absolutely - if I can at all - grovel my way into a new one. All sins forgiven isn't so much fun. I want to 'earn' my way, not be continually given a free pass. While I love an open world with very non-linear gameplay, I do crave some - for want of a better term - moral ramifications for my actions. For example, it gets very old very quickly just being arrested by some guards, paying a fine and then it's 'slate wiped clean'. I actually miss the way it was in Ultima IV (ancient gaming talk, I know.) If I killed that snotty little kid who was begging for coins I'd have to not only deal with the wrath of the guards, but I've have to do a fair bit of penance at the shrines to get back in the good books! I almost wish games would drop all the voice-acting and go back to text. It allows for SO much more dialogue and - consequently - immersion. When you have to struggle to get into the mood of your character and create what you want for them, it's not a good thing. Anyhow, forgive the lack of a suggestion as to how to better roleplay in Skyrim...I still haven't found an answer yet.
