mattttm
I have been trying to open nif files for the past week, for fallout 3 and skyrim; however, Im unable to. I have installed the nifskope plugin 3.7 for max 2011, and it wont work in either nifskope or 3ds max. I have tried doing the import function, but it says the string is too long. Heres a screen cap of the plugin being loaded and the error. Any help, Id appreciate it.
Ghogiel
That is the error you get when you try to import a skyrim nif, but you had an older version of the niftools plugin that didn't support skyrim nifs. .. but it that was the case you should still be able to load a F3 nif. I don't know, and I am sure you have done this, but reinstall the plugin is my best advice.
mattttm
should i uninstall first? how?
Ghogiel
Just thinking... are you using the exe installer or are you using the zip file that you just drag and drop into the max directory? I recommend trying the zip if you haven't been using it. or vice versa and nah, you shouldn't need to uninstall anything, just needs to go in the right folders, but if you do want to you can find it in control panel>uninstall programs> nif utilities... oddly only my 3.6 version on one of my max installs show up in the list though the 3.7 version I have installed with another version, Might be because I used the exe for one and just extracted the zip to another.
mattttm
Hmm... I tried both. I am reading the ini it saysInstallPath=[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout3]=@"Installed Path" could the fact of having neither games installed to my pc pose a problem? Ghogiel
Nah. I think those lines you are looking at are for reading where the textures are located so that when it imports, the material is setup and the textures are displayed right in scene without you having to do anything about it. mattttm
some of the f3 nifs wont load in nifskope I get this error""failed to load file header (version 14020007, 20.2.0.7)"" "failed to load nif from 'C:/Users/MATTHEW/Desktop/Bethesda Works/Fallout 3 Extracts/MeshBSA/meshes/weapons/1handpistol/44magnumrevolver.nif'" I tried loading a creature and it loaded, but there was no mesh visible. Any ideas? EDIT: In nifskope, it only opens thew actions like attack, but not the model like eyebot even when it loads the action, I dont see anything Edited December 4, 2011 by mattttm
Ghogiel
if you mean you loaded a kf and didn't see anything.. that would be normal as there really isn't anything in them that can be displayed visually... well without a skeleton to display the data on. Kfs basically just contain a list of controlled blocks and the transform data... so without the blocks it's just s list of times and transform data. But if nifskope is busted that is totally crap. What version nifskope?
