Missing Settlement Categories Dilemma

I just was hoping some people might be able to give me a good list of mods that they have had the issue of making your settlement categories vanish. i have tried every fix i could find and nothing works. my last choice is to start fresh with a new save and i do not want to go through this again..i have already restarted to many times and its becoming discouraging. i would hate to have to stop using mods with fallout 4...its one of its biggest pulls for me. i know this is something you just have to live with in the modded world but if anyone has any idea of what mods made this happen for them so i can stay away from them to keep this from happening again id appreciate the help.

This usually only happens when having uninstalled a mod that needs a desactivation in-game before uninstalling the mod.

If it's just your furniture menu that has vanished, try this fix from dinozaurz' Do It Yourshelf mod (third file from the top).

You can also try the Universal Menu Fixer associated with this tutorial, it's on the file tab: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12192/

As Jimmy said above you uninstalled a mod incorrectly that caused you to lose your menu. Always pay attention to the uninstall instructions of *EVERY* settlement building mod that adds items to the workshop menu. More and more modders are using menu injection scripts to add items to the workshop menu to avoid conflicts with other mods. The downside to this is you need to follow proper uninstall directions or you lose parts of the menu or even the entire thing. All modders smart enough to use menu injection are generally smart enough to include a way to uninstall as well. Even mod authors new to menu injection nearly all use the tutorial in the link I gave above which emphasizes giving users an uninstall method. If you find a mod author that doesn't give uninstall directions for their menu injected mod, feel free to avoid that mod author as a dangerous moron who'll break your game. I suspect though that none of the popular settlement mods released or updated since the CK came out in the spring will be on that list.

Another thing to keep in mind, which I became aware of only recently, is that when uninstalling mods that use script-added menus, it is mandatory that you quit the game to the Windows desktop after deactivating the mod, before loading another save game. If you deactivated the mod using the vanilla MODS menu and immediately loaded up a save game without first quitting to the desktop and restarting FO4, the menu might be missing even if you used the proper uninstall chem/holoatape. The same rule applies when using missing menu fixer tools.

That's a good tip Steve40, I'll be sure to include that the next time I repeat the above advice. :D lol I just keep the Universal Menu Fixer bookmarked and handy for the threads on this subject that seem to come out every few days. :pinch: I've never even used the vanilla mod menu, only NMM or MO and I've always exited to desktop and completely restarted the game just as a generally sane thing to do so I would've never realized it's important.
