Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Love this game. Combat is really awesome. Characters are a bit vacant with long-winded stories about nothing in particular, but the side quests are fun.

Also, this game is not press x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x. Playing on medium, and pressing just a single attack button when fighting a group of enemies is the surest way for me to die. You have to know when to use power attacks, when to dodge and when to simply block an attack.

i get thought the game easy pressing XXXXX. blocking is rarely needed im lvl 24 and overpowered. about 45% crit, 50% chance to bleed, 70% chance to poison plus the talents that will do more damage when the target is bleeding or poisoned. a power shot from my bow does 2000 damage. i dont know whats level cap but im sure be able to get 100% crit by level cap. maybe rogue tree is just overpowered.

Figured out how to open the dds files, need to open the file up in a hex editor and remove the first 16 bytes. shame the 004 file has 13,500~ non descript texture files and there isn't an easy way to find what you want. The method of packing/unpacking doesnt allow larger filesizes either, which is a shame.

if you want to sort through this mess, be my guest lol.

I've heard one of the criticisms for the game being that it's easy to get overpowered and end up staying overpowered unless you move on to a new place with drastically tougher enemies. Might be that.

I'm a pure mage, and having a rather tough time of it. I'm not even the normal glass cannon type of mage, I just plain and simply do normal damage and die easily. :P Using staffs and chakrams, but I'm considering replacing the chakrams with daggers or faeblades.

I can vouch for faeblades. Watching the animation for maxed-out faeblade combat is worth the price of admission.

I can second that. I'm playing a character which is a combo of Finesse and Sorcery, and for close combat, I use faeblades and lightening and/or fire, and for more ranged combat, archery and lightening and/or fire. I'm finding this game a lot of fun.

Has anyone played this game?

The folks that posted before you did, and so did i. Game's fun, combat is awesome (I feel like Scorpion when i use that harpoon skill :D). It actually feels like your character is capable of using a weapon as opposed to Skyrim where your character only knows to swing left to right and up and down. Combat can be alluded to fighting games, not just God of War. Mostly Soul Calibur, as the fact that you can juggle your opponent with your weapon made me feel like i'm, playing an RPG version of the said game.

As someone stated a few pages back, NPCs do feel more "alive". They don't just stand in the middle of the road waiting to be killed, they actually do stuff. Wolves and most predatory creatures in the game, can be seen eating a recently hunted prey. Bandits will do push-ups and situps, loot a recently killed victim and some even practice their archery. Attacking another NPC in town will actually scare the non-combatant NPCs and make them cower in the corner as opposed to Skyrim where some of the non-combatants will approach you and punch you in the face. Basically, they leave you to be taken care of by their guards. Hell i even saw a bear rolling on the grass and obviously enjoying it.

My only gripe is that the character creation is not as deep as Skyrim. With only 5 faces to choose from for each races and gender, there'll be a lot of npcs that'll look a lot like you. The female faces, although only a handful, are quite well done. Problem is, i prefer playing as a male in this game as i cannot picture a gentle looking female character impaling a bandit on an energy spike. Which brings me to another problem as most of the male faces look cartoonish and lack the look that'll compliment your badass fighting style.

Now don't get me wrong, just because i'm comparing it to Skyrim doesn't mean i instantly hate the game because something new came along.
