justwannaddl
4 gb mod is good, especially if you use ultra high settings. Killable children is good if you want more realism. Cowardly horses will make it so horses will do what normal animals would do when spooked. Modifying your ini files also seem to be a must. elvinkun
I'd say try it without mods first, for any game ... BUT if you can, do NOT get the 1.2 patch, it breaks resistances in game, meaning you have to mod to be able to play at all. Not mentioning it breaks textures and makes dragons fly backwards. So if you can, get only the release + th rease patch (1.1). But again, I say do not mod it at first, you can never apperciate mods if you don't know how the raw version trully looks like. Handofbane
4gb enabler is really the only mod you want to use on a first playthrough (the game runs awfully without it, you WILL see a difference even just playing a half hour without). Beyond that, as stated above, you will not appreciate just what changes and fixes mods add nearly as much if you do not play vanilla otherwise. JimboUK
It would be worth waiting until they fix the last patch before you start playing, it should be this week.
Seviche
I don't think you should mod it at all. Well, the memory thing might be good, but I'm not having any issues that I'm aware of and I don't have it. *shrug* If you play it before modding it then you'll find out what you like and don't like about it. Then go from there. the only problem being is that until the CS comes out, any mods or patches will be limited in their true scope and application. So yes, play then mod. Vanilla is still a delicious flavor, even if you favor chocolate.
khbazur
I would recommend the following bugfixes as a must in addition to the requisite 4gb LAA fix. To Enable them go to your My Documents\My Games\Skyrim and open the open "SkyrimPrefs.ini" in notepad then search for [Launcher] under it write "bEnableFileSelection=1" so it will look like this: [Launcher]bEnableFileSelection=1 <-------- the line you added Ebony Armor Matching set Fixed Fixes the heavy armor Matching Set perk so it applies to Ebony Armor. known bug Ebony Blade Fixed This plugin fixes the 'Ebony Blade' weapon so that it properly gains damage bonuses from the Two-Handed perks, rather than the One-Handed perks as it does currently, as well as making the weapon considered Ebony for the purposes of the Ebony Smithing perk and adding a recipe for upgrading the Ebony Blade at Grindstones. Headsman Axe Fixed This plugin fixes the 'Headsman's Axe' weapon so that it properly gains damage bonuses from the Two-Handed skill and related perks, rather than the One-Handed skill as it does currently, as well adding an upgrade recipe for the Headsman's Axe at Grindstones. Esbern Quest Fix Gives you a few directions on how to extract the files from the BSA yourselves as uploading unmodified files is not allowed. Extracting the required voice files fixes the massive problems that causes this quest to break. I also recommend the following as addons for missing content that i think should have been in the game from the start. None of these are unbalancing and are all lore friendly. Dragonbone weapons Adds dragonbone weapons to the Dragon crafting recipes with several options for looks, strength and difficulty in crafting. Arrowsmith Adds arrows to the crafting recipes. Jewelcraft Adds several missing jewelry pieces. Made by a real life jewel crafter. Lost Art of the Blackmith adds every missing weapon and armor improvement recipe to Skyrim. Useful crafting recipes for Silver weapons, royal armguards, lockpicks, work axes, and Imperial light armor are added as well. None of these changes anything, simply fixes bugs or add content that i believe needed to be added due to thier glaring omission in the vanilla game. Finally, when you get your own house and are tired of it's default looks, you can try your own hand in redecorating it! This forum entry explains it all.Renovate your house with the console as well as this page to get the formID of the items you want to generate. I recommend using the norepawn items for containers to prevent the loss of your hard earned loot. PlayerHouseChest, FormID 000F3923 is also safe. So enjoy and have fun! ravenshroud
Do not play this game without mods. Mods are not cheats to make it easier. Mods are ways to make it better. Do NOT play a mage without regen mods. Do not craft without the mods you see above and vals mod to break things down. The jumping mod is very helpful and adds flavor to some races. The sotries in this game are great. The balance is not. Use mods.
mokaloka99
I Love Skyrim and I am not taking anything away from Bethesda but don't play it through normally. Make your first impression the best one. For whatever reason, be it because of consoles, lack of time, pressure to release on time, bethesda can only complete a certain amount of detail for graphics. They created this sandbox for us to improve on so I recommend going out there and getting all of the graphic enhancing mods and the 4GB Mod. If the mod changes the way part of the game behaves then I would wait on that until you play it some. However, I see nothing wrong with wanting the game to look at its absolute best before running it the first time. I loaded about 20 or so graphic enhancing mods before playing it. Enhancements to Characters, Weather effects, Landscapes, Cities, Furniture, Food, Clutter, Flowers, Potions (Silly detail mod is amazing), weapons, horses, the MOON, the stars... My Skyrim looks like a painters canvas, any screenshot could be blown up and used as a wall painting. Good Luck,
crudius
I played clean on my first char up to level ten....then decided what i did'nt like and broke out the wyre bash. Think you should play a few hours of vanilla first.
