hey modders have what should be a pretty simple request for some of you. my character has been having a drug fueled trip through the wasteland and needs some paintings to reflect that. i was hoping for all or some of the progress of the soul series by alex grey to be put into the game as a standalone pack for my settlements. preferably roughly to scale of what they actually are if possible

I seriously doubt that Alex Grey would give his permission to allow people to distribute his (mind-blowing) work, so if you really want this in your game, you'll have to learn how to do it yourself. It really is'nt difficult, in fact probably one of the easiest things to mod into the game so have a look through the tutorials in the forums.

Are they free to use? Otherwise you need the permission of the artist to do this.

i thought that it would be covered under the fair use act since modders generally do not profit off of the mods they make but i could be mistaken. thanks for the responses, will look into doing this for my own game myself

Fair Use is an over and improperly used idea. As defined by Stanford.edu:

"In its most general sense, a fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work."

Unless you are writing a review or parodying someone else's work, you run the risk of copyright infringement. Whether or not you profit is irrelevant. When someone creates something, they have a right to choose where said thing can be found. If they did not give permission to have their work placed in a mod for Fallout 4, then you cannot do so. What if the painter had moral misgivings about the content of the game and did not wish their work linked with it?
