Let's Necro it further:

Another reason auto-looters are notorious for causing crashes is the average game's inability to cope with a player carrying and/or storing 3000x as much loot as they typically would. This SHOULDN'T crash the game and bog it down (it's just a few kb), but it DOES.

This example (the "shouldn't bog you but does") is seen similarly with having a couple gigantic settlement's built in FO4. You can be on the other side of the map - you're still going to deal with a bogged down system b/c of an open-world orgy of assets on the other side of the game world.

Test it out. Load a game. Ditch the 20000 pieces of garbage in your bench that you'll never use, and compare performance. I'll eat a green apple skittle if it doesn't boost you. (I know - that seems like too much of a wager, but I'm confident.) Even with a huge settlement and two mediums, I'd still get wonky with tens and tens of thousands of pieces of crap in my bench.

Anyway - that's my $0.02. I didn't know about the Mister Sandman conflict, nor do I have any idea how that could arise, but I'll keep it in mind.

----------------------------------------------

Also want to add that with >100 hours in my original FO4 playthrough, mod heavy, I didn't have an issue with crashes/bogging. Then again (not trying to jab its current users) I didn't have it running at "max distance / loot absolutely everything / disable corpses / send everything but ammo to workshop"). I had a quest item looting issue when I **did** have it running that way very briefly - I ended up looting a quest item from a super mutant before I was supposed to and having to reload a slightly older save and scale it down.

---------------------------------------------

If you're at Orange Lantern levels of loot whoring and want to remove bog:
1) get a scrapper mod working
2) go to settlement and put everything you want to keep in a box
3) take everything out of your workshop
4) put it all in the auto-scrapper
5) put the broken-down elements into your workshop

-OR (my recommendation)-
Run auto-loot for ammo and flora at a distance, run a batch file for mats when modding gear, and tgm when you build your settlement.

----------------------------------------------

Auto-Loot is far from perfect, but you don't need 4300 ashtrays anyway, so keep it simple and carry on.

A longtime Auto Loot user recently e-mailed me that the following perks may exacerbate engine stability issues when Auto Loot is running:

  • Sneak
  • Mister Sandman
  • Mysterious Stranger (when chance is above 10%)
  • Ninja
  • Robotics Expert
  • Grim Reaper's Sprit
  • Four Leaf Clover
  • Wasteland Whisperer
  • Intimidation
  • Pain Train (upon aggro of a former player ally, instant CTD)

I cannot confirm any stability issues. The game has never crashed or frozen in 194 hours of playtime with Auto Loot or any other mod.

That said, I am aware there are unresolved engine issues that affect various subsets of users.

Although I sympathize, there is nothing I can do and my mod is most certainly not at fault. Only Bethesda can resolve these issues.

Crashes frequently for me on a fresh start, only perk is first level of idiot savant

Another error i encountered is that the character keeps saying "need to assing someone to this" at certain locations.

Certain items triggers crashes as well, mole rat den underneath red rocket is impossible to visit with auto loot active, believe brain fungus and mushrooms are the cause.

Another issue, meet dogmeat for the first time and can not initiate conversation, my character says the usual phrase when first meeting dogmeat but then nothing more happens.
