Thalassicus
Skyrim and Civilization both freeze at the blank screen before the main menu. Neither one loads. Any suggestions? maboru
Other games are only an indication that your PC is operating more or less correctly, beyond that Beth games are in a class by themselves due to their 'unique' game engine. Do you play online, did the you receive the 1.2 patch, were you using LAA before the patch?
Thalassicus
SW: The Old Republic is an online game. I did get the 1.2 patch. I was not using LAA.
Thalassicus
I figured out what the problem was. Is there any way to use AA in Skyrim with DX10? Forcing normal AA (instead of adaptive) with the AMD catalyst control center and a Radeon HD 5700 card was causing the problem, it does not work. Adaptive AA does not work either, with buggy transparency glitches in Skyrim. SSAA gives too much of a framerate drop. FXAA and SMAA are not options since those mods require DirectX 9, and my Skyrim client is DX 10. Edited December 8, 2011 by Thalassicus
Thalassicus
I was incorrect.

AA is disabled but Skyrim is not loading. It worked fine yesterday and I have not changed any settings. It's been working off and on for two weeks now, and I have not figured out the pattern or cause of this intermittent problem.
Edited December 10, 2011 by Thalassicus
