daverboon
I tried to avoid posting about this and solve my issues through research but alas I am left wanting. My first question is about getting better performance out of Skyrim. The auto detect sets me to high and that's fine since I don't have an uber gfx card. I have plenty of ram so I use texture packs to increase visuals. Things ran rather smoothly until lastnight when I went to Markarth which gave me huge fps drops and then the worst happened at witchmist where the fps dropped to an unplayable rate. Now I've been reading that this is mainly due to problems in the game so I'm not so worried that my system sucks. However I've spent a good amount upgrading my rig and there's really only area left to boost, the CPU. I emailed XFX about my board handling the 6 core and all they gave me was "It should" and then spouted stuff from the manual. So I think I need to upgrade my cpu but to what? My mobo is xfx 8200 (MI-A78S-8209) the 95watt one not the 125. Additionally I'm looking for some controller help. I have the G13 and love it but for Skyrim it just doesn't do. Movement speed is either full on or dead slow so I switched to the 360 controller. Works fine for the most part cept when I want to AltTab out of game, screen cap and any other keyboard functions. I bought the Logitech F710 thinking it would work alongside the keyboard but sadly it doesn't. Is there a way to get keyboard/mouse and 360 pad to work together or am I wishfull? maboru
If you want to use more of your RAM you need to install the 4gb mod as the game limit is 2gb. I'm not sure why you're having problems with the G-13 as mine is problem free. I barely changed my Skyrim profile from my Oblivion profile and it works great, from full to dead slow is simply a Caps Lock push. I'm not sure if you can use a 360 controller with a mouse (never used one myself) but I would think that enabling the 360 controller function in setup messes with the mouse. It is set to "On" by default and that caused no end to problems for people who don't use them. The game is very CPU intensive but not coded well for more than 2 cores so I don't know if you'd get much push from that, the faster your speed (3Ghz +) does show improvement though so you could try to OC your present one a bit if it and your mobo allow it. I don't know why the sudden lag happened around witchmist, maybe it was just a random thing. The G13 works like a charm, i just like the variable movement control I get from the thumbstick better and the G13 only gives an on or off option, no middle speed. I'm fussy I know.As for KB controls while using the 360 pad, I was thinking ahead with regards to mods that add extra key bindings like the RTS mod or Project Nevada. Anyhoo I stumbled on something today that may just solve my controller issue, Razer Hydra. If it's emulating the mouse and KB then both should be fully functional together. maboru
What about the the thumbstick on the G-13, I've never actually used it but why did they bother putting it there if it can't emulate a controller thumbstick. I haven't checked in quite a while but I'll bet there's a driver update that would make it easier than this - http://www.logitechusers.com/general-g13-gameboard-talk/9204-g13-thumbstick.html

Skyrim won't allow a joystick to be mapped. As for the lag I had around witchmist, just a random thing. Now back to my issue with controls. Right now I'm using the 360 hotkey mod that allows the 1-8 KB keys to be used, couldn't this be modified to allow all of the KB to be used? It's a stretch but another thought I had was if maybe the same control mechanism that duke nukem forever uses could be translated for use in skyrim. It automatically picks up whatever device you're using at that moment so need to go into the settings to switch between 360 control or mouse/KB. maboru
Ah, I see. It may be that that's a hard code function and something Beth would have to add, but I'm sure there's an intrepid modder out there somewhere willing to tackle it!
takieda
Ah, I see. It may be that that's a hard code function and something Beth would have to add, but I'm sure there's an intrepid modder out there somewhere willing to tackle it! I have found the beginnings of a workaround for the G13's Analog stick in Skyrim. I got the stick working, but it causes a lot of other problems. Step 1 is to get the joystick working AS a joystick. Open the Logitech Gaming Software, click the G button at the bottom of the window, select the Skyrim profile, then click on any of the four direction arrows surrounding the joystick (the down arrow that appears over the directional arrows), then click "Assign Joystick."To be sure this has worked correctly (if you're running Windows 7) Click Start -> Control Panel -> Devices and Printers, then right click on the Logitech G13 (or if not listed as such, just right click on "HID-compliant game controller", then click "Game controller settings." Make sure "Logitech G13 Joystick" is selected, then click "Properties" and move the joystick around. You should see the crosshairs move in the window that pops up. Next, click the link below: Analog Joystick in Skyrim The link above is to get another controller, the Logitech Rumblepad 2, working in Skyrim. It does this, as far as I can tell, by emulating the Xbox 360 controller using the Rumblepad 2. The problem is, in game it removes mouse usability, as well as most buttons on the keyboard (which is what most of the keys are on the G13 - but it gets the joystick working in game. If anyone else has any ideas on how to get this working, I'm game, as I would LOVE to have full analog control over my walking in the game (and free up the walking button to boot). takieda
RAM doesn't matter as much for textures as VRAM... It was probably a bad idea for me to resurrect this thread, but I thought as noone else had brought up the G13, I might as well post it here. I don't know if their other issues were resolved, but the last post they made was in December.
