I have 3 ideas that may help stop the theft of mods

I'll take a different POV on this.

I do digital photography and digital Space Art. Back in the beginning, I would simply put in the corner of my work clearly seen:

JJ Breen - Month/Year.

On the site posted, I would also put under the picture in a text field:,

" PLEASE DO NOT COPY - PASTE or use on another site without permission first, please. Personal use as wallpaper is fine."

I would usually grant the permission, as long as the site is not X-Rated or other focal points that I do not support, as I did not - do not want my name and work associated with such.

Pretty simple, right?

Well, I found my Digital Space Art on a couple of sites with my name - month - year, cropped out, and the poster put their name on it and they got lots of raves and such at " how talented they were (not) ". Some were even selling my art work for profit.

Shortly after that, I hated the " Water Marks ", so I did something a little more sneaky and put very well hidden " Water Marks " that could only be seen if you knew what color spectrum to erase. That worked for a while but it got old ...

So now, I've gone with, sadly the Clear Water Marks .....

So I understand someone taking something that is NOT THEIR'S and posting it under THEIR NAME and such. It's not cool and it's not right, I do not care what " rationalization " they use. Wrong is Wrong.

The sad thing is Beth's site, like Steam, could care less and you have to go through hoops and such to get the said mod removed, and even then, some mods are still there unchanged.

One does not really understand or appreciate this very WRONG ACTION, until it happens to you. Then suddenly, one's eyes get opened it they find, this is not " right " and it sucks. Thus why I know a few handful of mod creators have quit making FO-4 mods, for this very reason. I cannot and do not blame them.

Ok then question? Why would you think Beth or steam care less? When they were made aware they immediately set up the DMRA thing which was clunky to be sure, but as stated prior, its been much better. My point is, mod theft can happen anywhere, even here the sacred of sacred places. Like any sorts of theft it gets found out and appropriate action is taken. Only problem is too many are willing to turn this into some console peasant vs PC peasant bs, or harp on their favorite target, be it steam or bethnet.

Point is I'm willing to bet that Bethesda, having taken the time to create another modding space cares very much, they want to see modders bring their mod to Bethesda and console.

Yes, but strangely - Nexus moves on it quickly when the issue is brought to the attention.

Beth, well I am painfully aware that some mods that were proven in specific Mod Thread Posts - Direct Notice to Beth and so on ...

Guess what? Those mods are still up. Now one has to ask: WHY?

I'm not talking days, I'm now talking MONTHS and notices were sent and received and ... well ... NADA. As stated the MODS are still there, and I'm not talking 1 or 2 months. In 4 cases, I'm talking 4+ months.

So, ya ... that's how I can say: Beth does not care. Nexus MOVES Carefully but Quickly .... and rightly so. Beth simply does not - HAS NOT - moved at all.

But like I stated, until it happens to you, specifically - it's all just ' words '. Funny what happens when it becomes your work that is the subject ....

Well, they are very swift when people try redistributing their assets.

They pretend to care by applying the most minimal effort to deal with it and implementing the most bureaucratically obfuscational and useless passive-aggressive takedown system ever conceived. At the end of the day, you realize that they are simply screwing you over and co-dependently (obsessed with a specific process) enabling piracy.
