Scary games...

Only one that's scary so far was Amnesia. Silent hill? Nope. Resident Evil? Nope. Give me a gun and im fine. Give me nothing and i have quite a dilemma.

Want scariness?

Dont be able to defend yourself.

You ever play the first Resident Evil? That game scared the hell out of me! You barely had one bullet per zombie. Once RE got away from standard "zombies" it started getting less like a horror game and more like a science fiction game.

You still have the means to defend yourself... Even though you always lack the ammo.

I played the first RE, thought it was scary then, now... Not so much.

Amnesia was the only game that scared me, and I've been a gaming addict/hardcore gamer since the 80s. I literally played the entire game with my character crouching and moving slowly just because I didn't want to bump into one of those weird monsters by accident lol! I love Amnesia as far as horror games go.

I hope the modding toolkit would already be released so we can make our own missions and give the game a horror flavor. Oblivion and Skyrim had nothing that scared me.

Yeah, I thought this was lacking, too. In Oblivion, I called the zombie's "squishies" cus they looked squishy... and slimy, and I was sure there was a smell. I stopped going down in the ruins cus they were so damn freaky. Meanwhile, the daugr aren't disturbing at all and die easily (the zombies were tanks). The dragons don't scare me, nor do the undead dragon priests. That said, the draugr are too common too be really scary. Zombies were rare-ish in the ruins, so that added to the effect, too. They were disgusting, rare, and hard to kill. Skyrim doesn't have those things. Even dragons drop too easily for me. Skyrim needs some scary bits and some uber hard bits, too.

I agree, OP.

I think what ruined the atmosphere for me was the fact that you could go into dungeons that hadn't been disturbed for thousands of years only to find them well lit with plenty of burning candles and torches.

I only got frightened when I got in to this haunted house in Makarth and started the quest for the Daedric Prince.

I know what you are talking about..

Oblivion's dungeons might used the same pieces repeatitevly, but they where making sense:

In an ancient dungeon like some Ayield Ruins that none entered for maybe hundreds of years, you wouldn't find lit candles like in Skyrim.

Skyrim's dungeons feel fake and unbelieveable,'cause who litted up all these candles ? The Draugr ?

Skyrim's dungeons are always full of light. In Oblivion there where some bright dungeons, but there where also some very dark ones, where you HAD to use a torch or a spell to see what's around you.

That created a better dungeon atmosphere that Skyrim is lacking. In Skyrim about 80% of the dungeons are as bright as a house in the day,and have either draugrs or spiders.

When I started playing Skyrim I chose to play as a Khajit, for being more agile and more importantly having the Night Eye power.Because in Oblivion it made to be so satisfying that I could use a power and didn't had to put a torch on my hand and loose my defense. But Skyrim is so bright, nighteye, light spells, and torches are redundant. That made the game lost much of its creepier dungeon atmosphere I believe, except from the lack of classic horror creatures.I ended up regretting for choosing a Khajit, cause all the Night Eye does is heavily distort the image with blur,to a state that makes me feel nauseus.

When the Creation Kit is out btw,I think I will try to do something about bringing more horror elements in Skyrim.I don't know yet what it will be,I will decide after I look what others will do first,so I can focus on something different.

I have been freaked out once or twice in Skyirim, one of the times I was roaming outside of Falkreath at night time and I heard a dragon and turned around and found a bunch burnt corpses in a shack, I kinda got a bit freaked out but I agree not enough 'scary' content in Skyrim at all. I mean you think in a world with skeletons, zombieish draugrs, Giant spiders and dragons that it would be pretty creepy.
