wesside0yes
Good day my fellow Nexus patrons, Today I'm here to state a very annoying issue for me regarding advertisements as being displayed here on the Nexus websites. Normally I would have no objections against websites using advertisements to keep the costs managable or perhaps even turn in a tidy profit, that is their own concern. Yet what does bother me very deeply is the use of sound and music in these (side) advertisements which I'm unable to mute. I'm a fervent enthousiast of listening to music via my headphones while working on my laptop, be it browsing the Nexus or study / work. Yet I cannot properly browse on the Nexus without being constantly bombarded with these intrusively loud advertisements which eventually force me to either stop listening or make my leave from the website. I hope this feedback will be of any use and that perhaps something could be done to combat it, I.E. a mute option or, my personal favorite, disembellish the advertisements of any sound altogether or in the least when not hovered over with your cursor. Vindekarr
I'll second that. advertising is one thing, but there's been a few lately which have been either extremely loud and unmuteable, or downright dodgey. The Nexus tries very hard to keep a clean image, on the forum, but semi-porn adverts cause that illusion to slip a bit.
bben46
As ads are placed by a third party, we do not have direct control of what is placed. However, We can request that a particular ad not be placed on the nexus. In order to do that we need to know what the ad is - Ads are placed based on geographic and some other criteria so we don't see the same ads everywhere. This is not just Nexus sites. Almost every site that allows ads uses a third party ad company. Unfortunately, some ads are snuck in by the advertiser - they show a prevue ad to the 3rd party company, then after it has been approved and has run for a short while, they change the ad to an obnoxious noisy one. :wallbash: Dark0ne (site owner) does try to remove annoying and noisy ads when he finds them. Best, take a screenshot and post it so we will be able to identify it. If we don't know what it is or we never see it because of our location, then we can't get it removed.
Garagorn888
In Wales(UK) I get a "Drakensang Online" advert that's extremely loud and is very annoying, especially after I've just played Skyrim as I turn my volume up quite high on Skyrim as the volume of the in-game music is very low for some reason. Just thought I'd report that and second the OP's request. :) E: I also just noticed a "NINJAWAZ" advert that's even louder. It's seems only recent as I never had these obnoxious advertisements on the Nexus before. But I'll keep your advice in mind the next time I'll be greeted and subsequently stabbed in the ear by one of these advertisements.
bben46
If it was the 'Drakkensang' ad we got a pic from another user. Hopefully that one will be gone soon. Be sure to NEVER click on one of those obnoxious ads as that is how the advertising company makes their money - pay per click. If no one clicks on them, then they make less money and may be hesitant about placing another similar ad.

Because clearly all of us have the exact same browser as you with the exact same tools. o.O Yeah, I'm still on Internet Explorer with Windows XP. This is my dad's PC. I really want to get Chrome or Firefox so that I can get tools like that sound mixer but he refuses to update. -.-
benuu90
I agree, very annoying noisy advertising, and page scrolls itself to the bottom, and you cannot control it anymore. Very close to a ''visual rape '' :D
