Dubnoman
So Skyrim Special Edition is almost here. I have system specs that are closer to the minimum system requirements (for GPU). I have 8 GB of RAM, an Intel i5 that is better than the recommended spec for CPUs, but a Radeon HD 7950 with 3 GB of VRAM, which is closer to the minimum spec GPU than recommended spec GPU. My options are to get the game on PS4 or get the game on PC. The game runs at 30 fps on PS4. So I was wondering, will there be a way (mod, .ini file tweak) to lock the PC version of SSE at 30 fps? I'd like to play the PC version if I could since the mods will be more plentiful and generally better. I think that if I could lock the game at 30 fps, I could get something on my PC that looks at least as good, if not better, than the PS4 version, while also being 30 fps as well, and with better mod options. And if I could get a rock solid 30 fps, I'd really be fine with 30 fps. I'm guessing if I can lock the framerate, I can keep the advanced effects turned on and settings on high or at least a mix of settings on high and medium. Does that sound like a reasonable expectation? Edited October 23, 2016 by Dubnoman
iXenite
Like other Bethesda titles there should be a way to lock it at 30fps. If not through an ini edit then surely through your GPU's control panel. Your HD 7950 is better than the PS4's GPU which I believe is essentially a gimped HD 7870 (it actually uses an APU by the way, not a dedicated GPU). However your CPU is far superior to the PS4's incredibly weak CPU (which is its major system bottleneck) so your performance should be quite a bit better than the PS4, so locking it at 30fps for a smoother experience while cranking things up is a perfectly reasonable expectation. If you already own Skyrim + DLC's you will get the Special Edition for free on PC - so that will also save you money. The PS4 version will have a very pitiful modding experience sadly, so that should also be taken into consideration. It has been severely gimped in comparison to PC and even the Xbox One when it comes to modding.

It is good to know that through framerate locking, I should be able to get a pretty good experience out of SSE with my current hardware. I do know I will get the game free on PC. I do have the original game and all DLC on Steam. I'll keep my eyes open when the game hits and the days that follow; looking around online for how to do framerate locking for this game. iXenite
You're welcome. I'm sure if there isn't an option in the launcher for it (Bethesda never really does provide one) then a guide will come out where someone shows you how to lock the framerate. Your hardware should be fine. I've seen people with rigs not much different than yours play Fallout 4 and even more demanding games just fine, so you shouldn't worry too much. :)
