CTD after playing the game for 10 minutes

Help! I try to play Skyrim but I crash to desktop literally after 10 minutes of playing. I had this problem before and had to solve it by playing in windowed mode, but I still play in windowed mode and it's happening again. My game is highly unstable. I also have flickering water, which before I solved by making sure V-Sync was turned on and also downloaded an FPS limiter. My game was impossible to play before I uninstalled Open Cities, but it still likes to crash every few minutes. Help, please.

i don't think you'd want to use the fps limiter and vsync both. even if you did, you don't need to download one as it can be done through enb or if you have a nvidia card nvidia inspector. well you're using quite a few mods and just trusting loot to resolve all conflicts, so you can expect problems. this is due to mods overwriting parts of each other and reverting changes, and some mods even just overwrite records with vanilla skyrim (even breaking vanilla dlcs) so you need to resolve those conflicts to make your game work right. some things you can do:

 

1) read the descriptions on every mod page very carefully for info on load order and conflicts. loot won't always be right.

2) try to stick to recently updated and popular mods. these are generally tested and maintained, and many have patches for other mods.

3) google "tes5edit conflict resolution guide" and learn how to use that program to check. that way you can make informed decisions about mod ordering and fix pesky conflicts.

 

someone might know that a mod is supposed to come after another (like realistic dialogue should go after guard dialogue), which might fix one problem, but you'll inevitably have others that maybe nobody will mention or have experienced. since you're the only one who can check your own plugins for conflicts, you're the best person to find and fix them.

Unfortunately I've tried time and time again to use TES5edit to no avail. I think my better option may be to simply delete mods that may be causing the problem. What kinds of mods do you think I should start to crack down on? IE specifically scripting mods, spawning mods or texture mods?

the conflicts (and subsequent crashes) come from the plugin (esp) files. a formid that's altered by more than one plugin gets overwritten. some fields are carried over, but anyway that's why you order them, and a lot of mods need patches. also, some conflicts can cause the script errors you see in people's papyrus logs. to tell which of your mods are causing problems, unless someone else has the exact same load order and has checked, once again, you need to look at the records.

 

don't save anything unless you find a guide on it or are sure it won't mess anything up, but to get a general idea of what sort of conflicts you have, try this: run tes5edit (from mod organizer executables if you're using it) and load ALL of your plugins. when it's done loading, you can right-click in the blank space of the left panel, and then from that menu click 'apply filter'. there are some boxes in the upper left and you need to uncheck the first, second, and fourth ones and click filter. all that's left are your conflicting records now. they're color-coded. if you see a red underlined one (you probably will) and navigate down to the individual records and take a peek, you'll see what i mean.
