autumnsky38
Hi everyone. I have been playing using the Join All Houses Mod, and I think I screwed up my game the other day because instead of doing the quests to become the Grandmaster of Hlaalu, I ended up doing the entire quest using the console. (I had installed a mod that had Dren be killed, and so I wasn't able to get a construction contract from him. At that point, I began w/ the console) Unfortunately, the manor didn't appear and now I'm wondering if there is any way to fix what I've done aside from using an old saved game or starting from scratch? Thanks for your help! Tracy
Dragon32
Have you tried the Journal console command with the codes from here?
autumnsky38
I did. But I used every single code to do the entire stronghold quest, and Rethan Manor didn't appear, and so I'm wondering if using the console too much messed up things now. Not sure. But, I guess all I can do is try it again or go back to an old saved game. Thanks though for your help-I appreciate it. : ) Tracy
Tchos
It depends what you mean by messing things up. It doesn't inherently make things worse by using the console, and anything you do should be able to be undone. It's just that some quests can be more complicated than others, and it takes more than setting a journal state. A quest may update the journal, set some variables, create or destroy some objects, run other scripts, and more. The stronghold quest in particular starts some kind of timer that gradually progresses construction of the strongholds and the creation of certain NPCs over time, and the only way to find out what all was triggered by original quest besides updating the journal is to open it in the construction kit and read the scripts, unless it was documented somewhere by someone else. autumnsky38
Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure how to use the construction kit, but may have to do that if I can't get this to work. :( btw----I would like to ask you guys something else about this. I wasn't able to get the manor to appear in my game, and so I went to an earlier save, did all of the House Hlaalu quests, got the land deed, then when I go to Duke Dren to get the construction contract, when he asks if I would be willing to help his people and I click on "yes", the same question pops up again and again---there is no way to get this to move forward from this dialogue. :( Not sure what's going on but it's so frustrating. And I'm just stubborn enough to keep working on this until I get this darned stronghold! lol Thanks for any and all of your help, you guys---I really appreciate it! Dragon32
At a guess you're using more mods than just Join All Houses? If you're just sing that then does the problem persists when JAH is disabled? If you're running a few mods then please post your mod list from morrowind.ini (at the bottom) and the contents of your warnings.txt file (same place as morrowind.ini)
autumnsky38
Hi Dragon. Thanks for replying. I am using several mods, actually: Join all houses, Balmora Gem Merchant, Apocrypha Library, Urivith's Legacy, and CM Partners. I haven't tried doing the Hlaalu quests/stronghold/etc. without the Join All Houses mod, but that might be a good place to start. I'll uncheck it and see if that changes anything. btw----I'm not sure where to find the morrowind.ini and warnings.txt files......could you please tell me where to find them? Thanks! Dragon32
Wherever you've got Morrowind installed. E.g. for me: C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\morrowind.ini Should be able to right-click on your Morrowind shortcut and choose "Open file location". Unless you've got a Steam copy where it'll be in: Steam\SteamApps\common
autumnsky38
Thanks so much, Dragon. I'll give this a try asap and post my info. : )
Tchos
It's good that you're willing to keep at it until you get this working. For easy reading, when you post the contents of your .ini file and warnings.txt, I recommend putting them within spoiler tags so that we can collapse and expand them as needed, assuming they're relatively lengthy.
