metatype0ne
As expected, it's getting bashed already: http://store.steampowered.com/app/489830http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-special-edition Higher requirements and worse content. No reason for me to start modding all over again. Without my 250+ mods, this won't be playable without a massive "blergh". I wonder who is crazy enough to go through the torture all over again. Not me thx. Edited October 28, 2016 by metatype0ne
AlarictheVisgoth
the only benefit to PC gamers that I can see from SE is a more memory stable system given the 64 bit upgrade? Because based on reviews so far, none of the game breaking vanilla bugs appeared to have been addressed? And according to several youtube reviews, there are many world spaces which still retain their fugly vanilla textures. Typically when looking into the distance at objects. So they spent $$$ overhauling the lighting scheme--but went on vacation for any landscape overhauls. Because the graphics are nothing revolutionary. Existing ENB series are at least equal to --or more superior than -- the new textures & lighting in SE so far. The current mod shortage is another big factor. At least until major utility mods like SKSE, SkyUI and FINIS (and the legion of new animation, adult, weapon/armor, quest etc. mods which depend upon these) are ported over there. ModdedToHell
One of the reviewers put it perfectly: Everything is the same, same bugs, same issues, same everything, with the exception of one thing. Mods. Mods are now avaliable for consoles, and that's actually my dear, the main reason you even got Special Edition for free, it's so that you can upgrade your old mods, and publish them on consoles, so that Bethsesda can quickly earn some quick buck on them, and use your created mods as a main selling point. This so called "Remaster" Was only for console gamers, and the major point of selling this "Special Edition" was PC mods, and that's it. Bethsesda now uses their community to sell their games. And IT WILL affect their future titles as well, knowing that they can be lazy, and can count on the community to fix every single mistake of theirs. Do yourself a favour, and play the original release, there's no need to support their horrible practices, and there's no reason to support laziness, such as this. FrostMoglin
Honestly, what did you expect? Bethesda said from day one the SE wouldn't have anything new except for better graphics and run on 64 bit. I'm sticking with my 2011 version since mods are way more important to me than a new coat of paint but mods are a nice addition for console players. Or at least for XBox players. SPH1
Got SE for free as I own the whole game, started playing yesterday. I think SE is better...and is going to be MUCH better once more modders get on board. I think SE looks better (definitely different) from my modded game with Vividian ENB and Vivid Weathers (or the excellent RCRN.) And grass is thicker. I tested SE Alternate Start and it worked. Currently testing Open Cities and Frostfall/Camping with a vanilla SE start and they appear to be working...flawlessly. My only concern is that my "budget" $300 AMD APU self-build (no dedicated graphics card; chip only) may strain a bit. I say this because my mouse seems slower going through the item menu. Everything else looks okay. But I can always add a "real" graphics card which is supposed to be like having two cards. My rig played original Skyrim with mods without a hiccup. SE just seems to have more gravitas. I doubt I'll go back, other than for perhaps testing comparison purposes. (BTW, each game uses a separate common/Skyrim folder, so both can be played as if two separate games.) Watched a youtube vid with a good analysis: Original was a seed that grew into a beautiful tree via mods. SE is a larger seed that has the potential to grow into a much more massive and beautiful tree. So right now, people are trying to compare the grown "tree" of the original game with the "seed" of SE. If Skyrim lives on, SE will surpass the original. Edit: Forgot, also using SE Wet & Cold. Edited October 29, 2016 by SPH1
rumpelhardt
I never would have paid for it but since I got it free I don't mind it.
dayglo98
Either Im one of the lucky few or I am just easy to please, but even though I have 130ish mods on the original Skyrim, SE looks pretty good out of the box and runs amazing. By that I mean 1920x1080 Ultra settings, Noble Skyrim HD textures, amidianborn armors, immersive patrols, Realistic Lighting Overhaul, Grass on Steroids, at a constant 59.9 fps. And I mean CONSTANT, even in Whiterun. View distance is much more well made, shadows are 10x better than original. Oh turns out 2500x1700 is 59.9fps too :pirate: :https://staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/images/1704/839808-1477721612.png Edited October 29, 2016 by dayglo98

KadebostanyCastle
It looks slightly better, but it still has that horrible skyrim look. You know how it is very easy to tell if a game was made in UE3? I can still tell that it is skyrim. Well I got it for free too, but imo whatever time they used on it was wasted.
