snackynak
So I just got a new computer a couple of months ago and one thing that I've noticed is that when I get to a dark area(like a cave tunnel section with no lights, or a dark corner of a room) of all the games that I've played on it so far, the screen completely blacks out until I point the camera to a bright-enough light source. I did a little google search to see what it was, and the closest one I could find involved the screen staying black when entering certain interiors(but did not mention lighting), even when re-loading the game. The solution was to disable HDR rendering, which is something I don't really want to do if my problem is not related. Here's some of my specs: GeForce GTX 560 (285.62), win7 64bit

maboru
Try doing a clean sweep of your video driver and reinstalling it. http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1174372

Vilthos
Radeon HD3870 x2 here.Seems the lighing does not work well. No spider webs, cannot see fireballs, nor campfire (sometimes), nor light beams (breaks a quest in dwarven ruins)I'm a destructive mage who cannot see fireballs, nor ice storms. I can see electricity though. Oh in addtiotin to this, after playing for 1/2 hour my card freezes for 30 seconds and then the screen comes back. danielcook
May sound derp but have you checked your monitor settings (brightness/contrast)? Ingame brightness/contrast levels combined with OS brightness/contrast then onto the monitor itself, with it's own brightness/contrast settings..like wearing sunglasses over sunglasses..while wearing a blindfold :hurr:

What I mean by screen goes black, is totally black, like the monitor is turned off. No light gradients or color gradients, nothing. It's like once the illumination on screen goes below a certain point, the monitor turns off. Only, the monitor is still on. Its kinda weird, and it also happens in Mass Effect 1-2 and Battlefield 3. maboru
Given a clean driver reinstall and the problem persisting in all games I'd have to think you're either overheating, you got a faulty card or your PSU is on its way out. Try opening your case and re-seating your 580 (and checking the power connections) then leave it open and turn a table fan on it while trying to play again. luxwing0go
Sometimes problems like this are associated with using settings from your GPU override those in game. If you are forcing settings in your GPU to override those in your game (the ones you pick from the game menu), turn it off and see if that fixes it. Ah, I'll have to check that, I hope it's not a faulty card, the computer is brand new(from digital storm). But I'm thinking it's is more of a software problem, not hardware, because it doesn't really happen randomly or after a certain amount of game play time, but only in areas of the game that have little in-game lighting. I know this because if I equip my character with a torch, then the screen dimming doesn't happen. So far, torches have been my main work-around for this problem  Sometimes problems like this are associated with using settings from your GPU override those in game.
