leptok
So I have something in mind for Skyrim, but I'm a total noob at modding. From what people have gleaned about Skyrim would it be helpful to practice in Oblivion for a bit? Or should I just sit tight until the creation kit is out for Skyrim? ALittleBird
I am right now practicing with Oblivion's creation kit. I think Skyrim's won't be very much different from Oblivion's, and that one has some very good and simple tutorials out.
gigantibyte
The interface may change, but scripting should use virtually the same syntax, with possibly a few new functions. That's where the cool gameplay stuff is done, so I'd focus my study on that. Edited December 18, 2011 by gigantibyte
ALittleBird
I'd recommend the Beginners Guide on the Construction Set Wiki, it's how I learned modding. Quite a lot of fun!

Matth85
May I point out a thing? We do NOT know what the CK looks like. We got no idea it is anything like the CS. We know the engine was rebuild, so the toolkit could as well.I say: sure, practice in Oblivion. Just don't get too confortable with the UI there before the CK arrives, as we got no idea how it will be. What is it with people assuming things, and then throwing it out there? Frankly, we now nothing of the CK. All we know is that it will let us mod, it comes from Bethesda and it comes soon. We then know a few things here and there, like Ghogiel said above me. Sorry for being blunt, but recommendation should be done on facts, not assumption. Practice in Oblivion is OK, but not to learn how to use the software. You get a taste how the workflow is, how a toolkit feels like, etc, etc.
LoganZezima2
I would recommend not. The CK is only a few weeks away from release. If you start with Oblivion's CK now, you will try to use the Skyrim CK based on what you learned from the Oblivion CK, which could be totally different from what is in the Skyrim one. It's easier to learn something new than go back and try to re-learn something else. Edited December 18, 2011 by LoganZezima2
