anonimouse9
Here's the deal... I hate Smithing and Enchanting. (Hey, I'm an adventurer!)But I'm level 19, and only have an Ebony sword (something like 30 damage). Where can I find/buy decent weapons!!!I really don't want to grind to be able to get my stats up, and I don't want to use cheats.I'm figuring, would a real adventurer spend time smithing and enchanting? No, I'd use my large gold horde to buy a kick ass weapon, or I'd pull one off a dead foe.
leyasu
At higher levels you can find Daedric equipment from chests and lying around in dungeons or on boss mobs. But end of the day without smithing your equipment damage and armor level is going to be low because you cannot improve the items. Makes the game a lot harder but if you like the challenge you don't need enchanting or smithing. Of course on the flip side when the game gets too easy when you have smithing and enchanting and your 2h greatsword deals 690+ damage not including about another 160+ elemental damage per normal swing :P Or you can do the quests for the Daedric artifacts and use those. They are generally on par with normal Daedric equipment and come with their special enchants so you don't need to enchant your gear Edited December 19, 2011 by leyasu
Nomad42
Yes a adventurer would spend time on smithing and enchanting, it doesn't take all day and it's a good way to put metals and loot to good use. As the person said above, best weapons would be artifacts if you don't craft. High level armor is very rare to find in the world.
Marieh
It takes about an hour at most to simply buy Iron Ingot and Strapping from the Blacksmith in Whiterun, use the smithy to make Iron daggers, then sell them back to the smith. Then you can either wait (speeding up to about an hour at most), or adventure (to get more gold) and then return. It is unbelievably easy to get from even nothing to full using that method. You grow up ta level every 3 or four swords at the lower skill levels
tigerseptim
I maxed out my smithing to 100 so I could start forging Daedric weapons and armour.
nebsif
smithing is like cheating.. I did the same as Marieh the 1st time I played and the game became way too easy and overall there was no point at all checking merchants and people I killed for interesting items, moreover, you will be the only one on all of Skyrim to run around with 2x improved weapons which is kinda bs. CalibanX
For my dual wielding Orc character I played on Master and didn't do much with smithing or enchanting and I got great weapons (swords) throughout the course of the game. Swords that did extra damage to dragons, swords that absorbed life, swords that did shock damage, etc. I had different sets that I would use against different opponents. You definitely do not need to abuse smithing or enchanting to play the game. I was very happy with the loot I got and thought they were more than adequate weapons for dragon & draugr slaying. I too, love only using loot I discover or buy in the game. I may do a little bit of enchanting or smithing every now and then for the hell of it, but a big part of keeping the loot interesting in this game is in abstaining from the Smithing/Enchanting skills. I await the mods to fix this.
justwannaddl
If you are part of the college of winterhold and have at least 90 conjuration you can get enchanted daedric items relatively early on without crafting. The atronach forge armed can make various daedric items with the proper recipe.
elderiii
An ebony sword at lvl 19 is actually a pretty decent weapon in it's own right. If you explore enough and do some dungeons you should be able to find some good weapons that already have enchantments on them. I haven't used enchanting or smithing on either of my characters thus far and they both kill stuff just fine with what I am able to find and/or buy from merchants. There is also the option of doing some of the Guilds and getting some nice items through their various quests.

Grinding conjuration to almost max level just to get Daedric items is just as bad as grinding smithing to get them.
