Game freeze on doors

Please, can you help? I've run a stable, modded (boss, bashed, OBMM'd, etc) Oblivion for some while. I recently added the excellent-looking Tona's Mod Store and suffered no end of trouble with it. I could not exit the store, exit the house that goes with it, nor the nearby Lakeside Home (Emma). When I click on the exit doors the game freezes on the load screen (while music plays to end of its loop then stops). So I withdrew the mod and cleaned up, killed the mangled saves and re-bashed etc.

But I am still getting frequent freezes on major doors AND on fast travels. I cannot trace what is causing these. I also sometimes get a freeze on a game load. I have tried defragging and tidying up game files. I've quadruple checked load orders, bashed patch, you name it.

I've only encountered this particular problem once before in 300 hours of playing and that was with Trashdog's SPB Curvaceous shop but once I "escaped" the shop (via testinghall) everything was fine. I do not know why Tona's store should cause a more permanent problem. I tried shuffling load orders with Unique Landscapes, and obeyed Emma's instructions on Lakeside Home. Even after removing the mod, I still have problems.

Might anyone have a suggestion where else I can look to fix?

Thank you, Clive.

Just a hunch but it could be the Abomb glitch.

• "Abomb Animation Slowing" is a slowing a of animations that typically appears around 225 hours into the game (though it may occur earlier or later). Effects are that many animations (spell effects, burning fires, opening/closing doors) have noticeably stop action effects, even while the rest of the scene is rendered normally. In fact the problem is worse in areas with high frame rates (e.g., simple interiors). This is presumably a bug with the game engine, probably something with thread prioritization for animations.

• The trigger for animation slowing seems to be the last four bytes of the TesClass data chunk in the save file. These bytes apparently represent a float value, which increments steadily with game play (on my machine advancing at about 2/3 of game seconds played). When the counter crosses a certain threshold (0x49000000), the animation slowing kicks in suddenly. The fix seems to be to simply reset this counter to an early value (0.0 would probably work. I use 8.0 or 0x41000000).

• There have been some reports of related problems with animations (dying wraiths not dropping properly) and physics collisions. Also, some have reported problems showing up before 0x49000000. However, there is clearly a substantial change as the counter crosses 0x490000, and the reported physics problems have been seen earlier in the game and so may be unrelated.

Solution: Right click the save file in the Wrye Bash list and select Repair Abomb from the context menu.

Thanks! Cool - I'll try that. I have noticed other glitches creeping in - one being a weird frozen sitting position on standing up in 1st person (have to bunny hop to go anywhere - really frustrating!). So you could well have my solution. I'll let you know how I get on. (Just checked it and it reports 105%, so I'm into ABomb territory. I've now applied that and I'll try the game soon).

Thanks for taking time out to help!

Just a bit of advice too, never drink an invisibility potion and immediately enter a door. It will freeze up your character, but not your game. (I learned this on the PS3 and had to roll back like 2 hours , but on the PC I think you can fix it with the console.)

I thought I'd mention this since it's related to the game freezing on doors :P

Wow - I've never heard of THAT one! Thank you for mentioning it. I've a load of invisibility potions and am bound to do exactly that sooner or later so thanks for saving me upcoming grief!

Glad to report using the Abomb fix has definitely fixed my game. Such a relief. Great community here! Thanks!
