ShogunSorrow
Hello, I'm fairly new to forums but I'm not that new to modding. I recently decided I wanted to return to Skyrim with all this Skyrim Remastered hype, in hopes the community was not well dead. But to avoid a wall of text of why I am here and playing in 2016 I will cut to the problem. The issue: The game simply won't save anything in the Saves folder, it disappears into Narnia like I never pressed F5 or Create New Save in the game or issued a command to save via console. Even natural auto-saves don't show. It's literally nowhere on my PC. What I tried so far:My Skyrim game, both modded, clean installed, and pretty much every other version or alteration of Skyrim folders, properties and file ownership claiming attempts result to my game not saving a shred of content. The game does it's typical autosaves, console saves, setting saves, quicksaves, you name it, but no matter what I do or change I cannot get a new file. I jumped forum to forum, some people had the same issue but when I tried their solutions of changing it or making it so it's not in the state of read-only, nothing. I know my PC is capable of making new data because I have other games that save just fine and I recently rolled a new character and saved her appearance via a mod. So I concluded that I have space and that there is something I'm missing or doing wrong. I downloaded a small command prompt button that lets me 'Take Ownership' of files too, but that also did not help. Pretty much everything a typical 'Skyrim will not save' post content that I saw did not work for my case. I done like 4-5 clean installs. Pretty much purged everything, including mods. I done a good 13 restarts, deleted Window's 10 OneDrive, and disabled Steam cloud saving on this game. Things that may or may not add to this: I have the latest NMM, every time I launch it, it'll give me the Missing INI. warning, I slam on the 'Okay' dialogue and move on knowing I have an INI but an empty Saves file due to me being unable to make any, fully able to download mods and all that hoo-ha. NMM works but it gives me that warning all the time. My file locations: My saves are located in the typical My Games>Skyrim>Saves along with the prefs INI in the same folder. My game is steam associated so it's C:\program files(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim. I have all the DLCs. I'm NOT using remastered, I'm using the Skyrim I have will all the DLCs. I'm using the latest version of SKSE and I have BOSS but only use it when I add in new mods or have an issue. BOSS tells me my load order is fine and I really don't think this is a mod issue at all because I can save and play just fine a year or two ago. saurusmaximus
How much room is available on your hard drive? So, the Saves folder does exist in your My Games/Skyrim directory, you just can't write to it, correct? Also, are the .ini files there or not? Bugnexus7
Shot in the dark, but here goes. It sounds like the game is not ALLOWED to write saves to the Saves folder. Make sure it is in the correct location (Libraries/Documents/My Games/Skyrim/Saves). Right click the Saves folder and select "properties"... Make sure you have NOT changed the permissions for the save folder, the folder it is in, or the Documents folder. Make sure the FOLDER is set to Read-Only (click "Advanced" under attributes, and check "Allow files in this folder to have contents indexed..." Make sure it is NOT shared. The Saves folder should have the same permissions as your system settings, ie "Full Control" listed under permissions. Under Group or User names you should see the following... __________________________________________________ SYSTEMHive_Mind (Hive_Mind-PC\Hive_MInd)Administrators (Hive_Mind-PC\Administrators) _________________________________________________If you see something different, this is more than likely the problem. If you have a problem that you think is related to the folder itself, you can go to the "Previous Versions" tab and try and restore an older version of the file that is stored in Windows backup (Windows will actually extract JUST that file from the Restore file if you tell it to! This is only usefull if the Save folder worked back when the restore file was created, but might be worth a try anyway.) While "Take Ownership" gives you full control of files, it does not change any of the settings. By the way, you must Take Ownership of files to fully index them for searches--For that reason, I "Take Ownership" of my ENTIRE hard drive. It is possible the game is putting the saves somewhere else (but HIGHLY unlikely), so if you take ownership of your entire drive, then you can search ALL the contents, including the CONTENTS of files! I hope that helps you figure this out,Bug
ShogunSorrow
The location of my Saves is slightly different, it's: This PC >OS (C:) > Users > Raven > Documents > My Games > Skyrim > Saves Could that factor anything? I don't think I have a libraries..
Bugnexus7
"Could that factor anything? I don't think I have a libraries.." No, for your OS, that is correct. Here is something you can try to rule out the folder settings. Find another application on your computer that creates files (of any kind) and tell that application to save something in the exact same folder as your Skyrim saves. Ex, Open an image in paint and save it there. If it can do it, then the problem is not the folder settings.
ShogunSorrow
The problem isn't folder settings, I just now confirmed it. ( as I was drawing a new rose anyways.)
Bugnexus7
So, let me understand the situation correctly. Right now, there is NO "Continue" to click in the Main game Menu, only "New" as a selection? You go into the jail cell (Live another life), create a character, hit Escape to open the main menu, use the save function and nothing appears in the upper left of the game screen telling you it saved? Or, you get the message in game that it saved, but there is nothing actually in the folder when you check? What happens if you do a manual save from the main game menu (escape), then go to the "LOAD" tab? Is there no file to load either? Or is only AFTER you CLOSE the game there is no save file? Do you have a second monitor that you can open the folder on one monitor, then play and save on the other monitor? If you can, you should see the actual save file being created the moment it does so. Also, SKSE makes a save file alongside the actual save file--Are you using SKSE? Bug
Bugnexus7
Are you using SSE? (Skyrim Special Edition) If you are, read this... http://gameranx.com/features/id/80172/article/skyrim-special-edition-how-to-transfer-your-old-save-files-on-pc/ The saves are in a different folder. Are you using a desktop shortcut that is opening the wrong version of Skyrim for the saves folder you are looking in? :pinch: Edited November 14, 2016 by Bugnexus7
