As much as I like to see a Skyrim MMO, I have no respect for anyone that uploads cracks for illegal copies of Skyrim.

Unless of course the Hipolipolopigus on the website in question is not the same as the one making Skynet.

I'm not 100% it's the same person, but it is highly likely. That crack was uploaded on release day, which means that it could not have been planted because of the backstabbing going on within this project.

I also have a lot of trouble understanding how and why there is money involved from donations. Soliciting donations on the front pages of a project that hasn't even produced a full featured and functional beta is is pretty alarming, and even more so that people are actually giving them (who can't even get along amongst themselves) their cash for what is likely to end up just another failed pipe dream.

This is the exact kind of crap that gives the modding community a bad name and reputation and every one involved in this should be ashamed.

Upon further investigation I firmly believe that it is in fact the same person.

A quote from the website in question (where the crack is uploaded).

"hipolipolopigus at 2011-11-28 09:53 CET:

Hm... Not sure what's going on there. Try one of my projects called "Light Skyrim Tools" on SkyrimNexus. Use "Force a Resolution" and then "Launch Skyrim".

Hopefully that will fix it. If not, right-click SkyrimPrefs.ini, click Properties and then make it read-only."

So I looked up that mod on the Nexus and that hipolipolopigus uses the same avatar as the one that is making Skynet.

I would give links to everything but since it goes to a popular pirate site I can't.

I have never ever posted anything on the Skyrim Online forums. The only thing I've ever posted on his site was this comment on the article about our mod (Which wasn't approved. Funny, that)

That Hipolipolopigus is not me. I'm not sure who they are, but they are not me. Obviously, there is little I can do to actually prove that it isn't me which really sucks. You can, however, look at my Steam page to see that I do own Skyrim through Steam.

This. I've always been tacitly opposed to this project because it's the next step in TES' slow descent into over-commercialized obscurity. Trying to turn what was designed as an immersive single-player experience into yet another half-baked MMORPG is a bad idea, and the last thing we need is Beth realizing that there might actually be money in such a venture in the future. Despite all the talk surrounding this project, the current proof-of-concept offers no features which were not available years ago to those of us who downloaded Morrowind Online. That project died due to a host of fundamental technical problems that could not be overcome, and the mod developers should be aware of this and realistic about their chances of seeing this project through to completion. Knowing that, it's irresponsible and premature to ask for donations at this point.

Maybe the mod developers will be able to navigate the technical and legal minefield they find themselves in at this early stage, and more power to them if they're absolutely determined to try. That being said, don't cancel your WoW subscriptions, because even if this project does somehow make it to beta, it'll months or more before it is even close to playable.

I am not saying one way or the other if that Hipolipolopigus and this Hipolipolopigus are the same, because I have no proof of such.

It's been my experience over the years that extremely unique names such as this are very rarely used by more than one person, especially when they seem to be linked by nefarious behavior in similar circles. Again, I am not accusing anyone of anything here, I just find it suspicious that someone takes the same alias as someone who has pirated tv show episodes, music videos and games.

My opinion still stands though about this project and solicitation of donations. All that money should be returned to the donators immediately and the solicitation removed from the site pages.

It would be returned, but that is not my job. Yamashi/Awpsoleet took 80 EUR before he "left" (107 USD at the time) which was all his donations brought us

And I agree with the unique names thing, but I've had this name since... What, 2004? That was when I first used it to register for the Gmail beta. Whomever they are, they took my name. Not the other way around :)
