Hoamaii
Hey guys, Been away for a while and I just installed FO4 on my PC while using the latest NMM to create profiles. On starting a new game, I noticed there is no save count at all in game when loading an old save. All saves are titled "Commonwealth" (that helps!..), including autosaves, with just an [M] in front of it to remind me that they're modded saves. Is that an issue on my install or are saves really not numbered at all in the PC version of Fallout 4? I used to create mods for Skyrim - and numbered saves helped A LOT when testing my mods. I can't imagine testing mods in Fallout 4 when all saves are named exactly the same and thumbnails are not reliable. Is there any workaround to actually display different names - or at least numbers - for different saves? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
chucksteel
It's not on your end and is normal. UNFORTUNATELY! :wallbash: I don't know of a workaround you could use the console and name a save I guess. Forget the command off the top of my head. Maybe "save" or "Save Game" + name. damanding
From the commands list on the wiki http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_4_console_commands SaveGame <filename> or save <filename> – Creates a save file with the given name.LoadGame <filename> or load <filename> – Loads the entered save file. Hoamaii
Thanks for replying, guys :) Yeah, I've been using Console Commands to name some saves though that too was kind of a puzzle as I'm on a French keyboard and I had to edit the game .ini file then try nearly all of my keyboard keys to find out that the good old simple Tilde key is now "ù" for me... Just "Save <newSaveName>" works but only a limited series of keys will work and I have to quit and reload to see my new save appear in the Load Save UI :pinch: I guess if Beth hasn't fixed that by now, it means they don't intend to... What the hell was wrong with the good old Skyrim's and FO3's "Number-CharacterName-Place-Day-Time" saveGame systems and the same Tilde key for everyone?.. So, to sum it up: all regular saves have the same exact name, Save Game files in Documents\MyGames\Fallout 4\Saves are just endless series of cryptic numbers which leave us unable to tell which is which either, inGame save thumbnails are not reliable, Tilde key is no longer Tilde, Data files and Load Order can't be accessed from the Launcher... that's some shitty design for a game they claimed would be easily moddable on every platform!.. Even for users, that's awful - how the hell can they tell which save is the supposedly "clean save" they need to revert to when they simply want to uninstall some mod? Has any of you installed a mod from Beth's platform yet? Can these be accessed from the launcher - if only to disable them?
damanding
I've so far managed to avoid using Beth's mod installer. Chucksteel probably has though, he has his Beantown Interiors mod available for consoles.
chucksteel
The Beth mods sorter is no longer in the launcher like it was in skyrim or I think Fallout 3 In the main menu of the game you will see MODS, Click on it and sign into your Beth.net account You will then see a mod page and can scroll through them, or search (I'm told that doesn't work well) add mods to your library, Install mods by opening the mod page and clicking install. I don't remember the vanilla button because I use a custom Southpaw UI but there is a sort load order where you can Sort, Activate, Disable, Delete mods. (it doesn't display the FO4.esm or any DLC for some ungodly reason) It's rudimentary but works and is good on consoles. I use it on XB1 mostly when testing my mods. Edit, I wouldn't want to use it with more then 30-40 mods installed.
Hoamaii
Thanks guys for your enlightments :) All this is good to know - but I'll probably keep realying on NMM, I like to download mods manually and check what's inside them before I install anything. Anyway, I just installed FO4 CK today, and spent the last couple of hours simply trying to launch it... unsuccessfully in all attempts, the CK opens with all windows piled as it was with Skyrim's CK 1st launch, but as soon as I just try to tidy them around, my entire PC crashes to blue screen, probably due to a driver issue - I have an nVidia 980 and the driver is perfectly up to date so I have no clue at all what may go wrong... Checked the CreationKit.ini which is obviously only partial, it stops after the [Papyrus] section and comparing it with SkyrimEditor.ini gives me no usable clue... so I guess I'll have to port that issue to another forum and hope someone can help me there. Thanks again guys!
