Rukus723
1) This is a massive undertaking that would take years2) I honestly don't think that Skyrims version of Gamebryo can handle it3) Making it in the first place is a legal grey area. Seeing as Arena and Daggerfall are freeware now I don't see the problem, but then again there is the issue of IP, then AGAIN it is a mod in a Bethsoft game to turn it into a Bethsoft game. The only legal reason Beth would refute this type of mod is if they planned on making a remake of Arena themselves.
Matth85
The only legal reason Beth would refute this type of mod is if they planned on making a remake of Arena themselves. Which is why we need written permission: We do not know what they plan. They can plan to merge all games into one big game in 20 years time, and don't want remakes all over the place -- yes, that was a joke. Though the point is there: We don't now what they plan, and we should not mess with it. It is a legal grey area, and you'd hardly get sued for doing it if no asset from the original title was taken. However, they could ban it from every major mod site. That would really suck for the modding team who made it: They spend ages to remake Arena, but the only way people can use it is if they go outside the bigger known sites. Alithinos
I got an answer from GStaff,Bethesda's Community manager. "As long as it's inspired by Arena and not using official assets from the original game, it should be fine." I think that this is a very pleasant answer, don't you think ?:)

If the answer was to a total remake, then yes: A very pleasant answer indeed. However, I do note it should be fine.", where" should" is a keyword. Are they not certain? I'm pretty sure that answer was not a response to the question "Can we do a total remake of Arena in the Skyrim engine?".I also would not take a wishy-washy opinion from a community manager as a legal release from Bethesda either. Gstaff has asked about these sort of matters from higher ups before, and can relay more directly with the interal departments in BGS, including legal, I would be satisfied with him giving the permission, it is his job to liaison on behalf of BGS to their community. He could have been little less 'probably' about it imo. But non the less, he is a BGS spokesperson. I bet an e10er that if you try to clarify he'll say the same thing: just don't use an assets from other games and it's ok. Which is Beth's official stance since MW.
