BlueGunk
Before you read all the below! UPDATE - I've given up and gone for a full reinstall and am rebuilding all my mods. Probably time for a review of what I'm doing anyway! If someone is able to shed light on why I had the save problem, I'd be most grateful. I can prepare for this in the future! FINAL UPDATE! I have since discovered a very recent comment on Reneer's Guard Overhaul mod where someone had crashing that occured at 3:00am game time and the crash seemed remarkably similar to mine. I had not removed that mod when I gave up. But for anyone interested it *might* be worth trying deactivating that mod for the problem area and see if that cures it. No disprespect to Reneer's super mod - I think this has just come to light so Reneer won't have had time to check it out. Meanwhile my rebuild has ironed out a lot of crud anyway. Probably time to do it! Original post: Apologies but no-one seemed to be looking at my addition to a previous topic so I'm starting afresh. I have suddenly started getting CTD on any save - new save, Streamlined, Autosave (which is normally turned off), See you Sleep saves, even on Console created saves. My game's been good and stable for ages though I recently had to run Abomb in Wrye to clear a few glitches. All my mods look good - have stripped recent ones back and reloaded, have tried going back a few saves. I've examined Bash, used BOSS, anything I can think of. Always the same. I tried the clear out the save folder trick. I've checked the Win 7 Event Logs and they show Application error 1000 and 0xc0000005 and Oblivion.exe at fault so I tried replacing Oblivion.exe with an earlier back-up copy. I've looked into DEP, anti-virus, sigh! I'm stumped. Any unusual things that might cause a CTD on save? The game plays fine until saving. If I right-click on the CTD saved ESS file (which is always 128kb in size) in Wrye Bash, and look at Statistics, I get this dialogue: Traceback (most recent call last): File "bash\basher.pyo", line 13457, in Execute File "bash\bosh.pyo", line 5899, in load File "bash\bolt.pyo", line 1936, in unpack struct.error: unpack requires a string argument of length 2 The title of the box this information comes in is "WxPython stdout / stderr" The OBSE save does not occur. I've also tried reinstalling Wry Bash - the new stand-alone version - no change. I tested an unmodded vanilla version of the game files as they stand and it worked perfectly, as did the OBSE loader version of the vanilla - so the basic game is OK. Hmm. Oh - and I tried waiting, and the "KillAll" command in case of bad spawn... I even tried saving in the testing hall. I've defragged, checked the disk, started a new save folder....I have tried everything. I'm working my way through removing mods via OBMM, and it is taking ages. But I'm going to land in hot water soon because I can't save anywhere. My game play is stuck in Elsweyr. Gulp. If anyone can help I'd be utterly grateful. In hope, thanks, Clive
ZOMGY
I have exactly the same problem, the save feature is somehow corrupted, and there are 2 autosaves in the normal "Save" folder for oblivion. You dont happen to have had the same mods as I have? At first I thought the "Deadly Reflex" mod, or the "DB awakening" mods were the culprits, but the problem continues even when I disable them. 1. Borderless Cyrodiil2. Anequina - The deserts of Elsweyr3. Darth Revan4. The lost spires.
Lanceor
This might sound wierd, but do you have the Fort Grief Door Key in your inventory? Try dropping it before saving (and it's not needed for anything after the quest.) If that doesn't work, the Keychain mod has been known to cause crash on save (but this could be related to the Fort Grief Door Key). If you have it installed, try deactivating it. Since I could not save anywhere but there, I had to give up in the end. For what it's worth I found Anequina very stable and solid and it rarely gave me any grief. It's a lovely mod! I did add the unofficial Elsweyr patch to it. If you have Reneer's Guard mod try removing that. In the end I got in such a mess removing mods to find the problem I just gave up and have gone for a complete reinstall. The crash was a memory violation so I think a file / files had become seriously corrupted. Good luck. If you find what the problem is please do let me know! There is something lurking in the system that causes this!

Yes, in fact I did have that key! I did not have the Keychain Mod as I knew it to be trouble but Fort Grief would have been in the inventory as I completed the quest through it. Hmmm. Interesting! Is it known to cause this sort of issue?
Lanceor
I've heard of one other player who identified a problem with that key. If dropping it fixes the crash-on-save issue, you'll be the third person and I think it confirms that this key is somehow bugged. I actually found it the key through modding - a certain script of mine was causing crashes on save and it took me a whole day to narrow it down... Let me know if dropping the Fort Grief Door Key solves the problem as I'm curious to know as well. :)

Let me know if dropping the Fort Grief Door Key solves the problem as I'm curious to know as well. :) I am sorry to say I had to dismantle my old game. My roll-back to find the mod causing my problem uncovered a jerry-rigged, gaffer-tape stitched up mess I'd created over time. So much so it collapsed under its own chaos and I gave it the last rites. But shaky as it was, it ran fine for ages so I'm sure something blew up rather than me overdoing the mods. I am now making a fresh start with some mods I'd always wanted but did not dare add to the old shaky mess. But I might deliberately go round that way again and see if the key gives me a problem. I shall let you know. Thanks for bringing this to light. Hopefully others reading this might feed back what they find.
Deleted5374928User
I've never posted before so I'm not sure if posting in old threads is allowed but I was having this bug too and it seems like the Fort Grief keys were the problem. This has happened on two characters now I think? The first character is long gone but I was having the exact same issue as I was just now. I managed to figure out that it was crashing on saves, any kind of saves, after I'd opened my inventory or dropped anything or picked anything up or opened containers or followers inventories or anything. Dropped the keys and the problem was solved. No more crashing on saves after inventory. I couldn't find any other references to it online except for this thread; Lanceor, I'm not sure if you'll read this but thanks a bunch, I was seriously frustrated. I'm not sure whether it was the real key or the fake keys but I dropped both and disabled them to be sure. Has anyone figured out what the exact problem is? I hope dropping the keys isn't just postponing the issue or anything. Edited July 6, 2014 by Guest
