Alithinos
Hi! I tried to make my first mod that would have to do with mesh editing..I am having a weird problem and can't get my new edited mesh to the game though.I will explain you what I did step for step so you can have a better idea of what I did,and please tell me if I'm forgetting about something.. 1. I extracted the .nif file I wanted to edit from .bsa.2. I used nifskope to export the nif as an .obj file.(For some reason the Blender .nif plugin doesn't work for me,so I have to convert nifs to .objs to get them to Blender)3. I opened Blender, and edited the mesh.(I only got to edit mode and moved some dots,I didn't messed with other stuff)4. I exported the mesh from Blender as an .obj file.5. I converted the new .obj file to the default kind of .nif file with Nifskope.6. I placed the new mesh on the right directory. I did this, but in-game where I should see my new mesh I see a red symbol with an exclamation mark. What am I missing or doing wrong ?
Ghogiel
5. I converted the new .obj file to the default kind of .nif file with Nifskope. Default blank nif version opened in nifskope is 20.0.0.5, you would need to change nifskopes startup version to SKyrims version. And then also change the user version 1&2 to match as well. and don't do that, just import into a vanilla skyrim nif. And if this is an outfit you are doing it completely wrong, and obj is complete faff with skinned meshes. If it is a weapon or something then it should work if you just import over an existing nitrishape in a vanilla nif. And all you need to do is fix the normals and it should work fine. anb2004
guess you need to be more informative about what exactly mesh that you edit, is it amors/clothes, items or weapons ? and can you tell me about the step 4 and 5 that you do ? coz afaik it will a lot more easier it you just exported into nif than obj file.. I think it was femalebody_0.nif if I remember correct. In step 4 I say that I exported the mesh from Blender as a .obj file.I did this because when I try to install the .nif plugin for Blender,I get an error that there is no "scripts" file for Blender in my computer. The thing is that there is a scripts folder at c:/program files/Blender Foundation/Blender/2.61/Thus I can't import or export nifs directly from Blender, and I have to use nifskope to convert nif to obj so Blender imports it,and then convert the edited obj to nif again. Alithinos
Whenever I try to install niftools for Blender,I get the error that Niftools can't find the Blender directory and thus I can't install them.Is there a workout for this ?Of course I have Blender installed, and didn't moved any directory ever.
9837265498
The reasons the blender nifscripts are not installing is that it is possibly... a: The wrong version of blender ( You need to use the 32bit (X86) because 64bit (X64) doesn't like scripts) b: The wrong edition (the script are for blender 2.49b as far as i know) c: The blender program files aren't installed in the default directory sadder news is I have been trying to use the nifscripts myself and it can't handle the skyrim version yet, or so it seems (python error on import) Hope this has helped and hopefully you, me, and the rest of us fledgling modellers will get some help in the near future. Perraine
I'm pretty certain that the download for Niftools now states "does not support Skyrim" The import/export .obj scenario seems to work for some modders, though I have read that you need to dot a few I's and cross a few t's to get it to work
