bolivor
Here's my question. If I'm wielding a sword in one hand and a spell in the other, since i can't block, can I use the perks in the one-handed tree to increase dual-wield speed? Or does it only take effect if you have 2 one'handed weapons equipped? I just don't want to spend the perks and then find out I wasted them. Any help would be appreciated.
nosisab
Not sure but I believe spells and weapons are treated differently by the engine, so hardly the perks for onehanded will change the spell load time at all.

In short, no. Using a spell in one hand and sword in another is not "dual wielding" either one. So the perk for one-handed dual wielding will only help if switch to two weapons when you're ready to strike. My mage focused character does this a lot, but with daggers. Some tips on speed tho: A dagger is faster than a sword. Also your left hand is slightly slower with weapons so if you go with a dagger and sword, be sure to hold the dagger in your left hand. GoodfellowGoodspring
Dual-wield refers to wielding two swords in both hands, so in your instance you would be classed as being one handed with a spell. AlfarinIcebreaker
Slap a healing spell on your left hand + Respite perk and you will never go to shield again.
