genolune
So basically I'm gathering ideas for themed rooms, areas and settlements. In particular: a) When you think of the Wild West, what do you think of? What would go in a Wild West themed settlement? b) What would you think would go in a military style settlement like the Castle (ie Barracks, Aid Station, etc.)? c) What would go in each of those areas (ie beds, wall lockers, and footlockers in the barracks)? I have more but let's start with that. I like having themed settlements like making Red Rocket an actual gas station or Starlight Drive-In an actual drive-in. Makes the creativity flow. JoKelly
No matter what's posted, you will find that many of objects, Assets, that would fit the theme do not exist LOL old west barns and buildings and wagons for instance. For My mod (for FNV) I've already made fifteen or so buildings, a steam barge and Paddle wheeler. Next comes making the interior's for the new objects. assuming I don't get side tracked making a tractor and a couple of new barns. other than that little issue you have a good idea. To many places and interiors both Modded and Base are the same old same old. Edited December 1, 2016 by JoKelly
Athanasa
Crazy conspiracy theorist's den. Posters all over the walls with writing over the top of them? I haven't found (or specifically looked) for any grotto type areas in FO4, although they were quite common in Skyrim. Some sort of, "Nature's doing pretty well here, it's all green and lovely" area might be nice. (I think there was a place like that in NV? Or was it FO3? With the tree mutant.) Actually, a world space based around it being taken over by the wildlife might be cool. Maybe go a bit Chenobyl. (Crazy druidic Children of Atom? Port a load of stuff from Skyrim?) Ruined shopping mall could be interesting as an interior settlement, assuming it doesn't cause massive performance issues. Maybe give it a skylight / hole in the roof, a tiny Worldspace like Diamond City. A subway based settlement? Not sure how you'd get the settlers to stop thinking they're still outside, thought. And provisioners would be essential (or just use planters, I guess). Tiny village / hamlet? With a couple of hollow, mostly fixed houses (like the lakeside settlement, but with the roof holes pre-patched) and a garden shed. Or maybe an empty church (lonely chapel?) ... Sorry, idea vomit happened.
Athanasa
a) Those plank style walls, dry ground... New Vegas had the building aesthetic down pretty well in the first town. I can't see anyone in the wasteland wanting to have those shutter-doors, too insecure. For a Fallout / defensive feel, maybe swap the plank walls for corrugated iron walls / parts? Also Brahmin and troughs, I guess. Stray dogs. Everyone has a gun and a hat. b) Depends on what you mean by military. You could go with abandoned fortifications (Hescoes, barbed wire fences, those giant caltrop things you attach the write to, old sandbag fortifications...) or with 'military precision' - remains of a clear mess hall or dorms. And there are also the APCs already existing in-game. Watch a few "dude goes to bootcamp/war" films for inspiration?
genolune
@JoKelly I think one of the DLCs adds in Barns. I think revolvers and lever action rifles. Brahmin and troughs could be a thing like Athanasa says. I'll rewatch the movie Tombstone and see what ideas I can come up with. I am thinking of a settlement in the Dry Gulch area of Nuka-World as a throwback to New Vegas or just a change of pace from the Commonwealth. @Athanasa I mean, take the Castle for example. What rooms would be necessary to a communal style military outpost? 1. Barracks for the troops which would have beds with the olive drab green blanket, footlockers, and wall lockers. Maybe figure out how to add pillows as static objects since those beds don't come with them.2. Mess Hall which would have a refridgerator, cooking stove, diner tables for everyone to eat at.3. Armory which has the armaments, maybe some weapons display racks4. Firing Range, which we could have bottles set up or targets along one of the walls so they can practice their skills.5. Restrooms and hygiene areas. One of the little alcoves I set up a shower/toilet combo using Homemaker and had dividers.6. Exercise area to keep their fitness up, maybe even repair the little lake and loop around it for a makeshift track and swimming pool.7. The barbed wire and stuff gave me an idea. Entry Control Points, where there is a guard shack or stand and barriers to slow down potential attacks or suicide bombers.
genolune
Other themes: Drive-In Movie Theatera) Clean cars added by one of the workshop crafting modsb) Snacks at a refreshment stand like gum, Nuka-Cola, popcorn (which I think Nuka-World added or maybe just empty popcorn boxes) DinerDrumlin Diner would make a great settlement.a) Plates, knives, forks, cups as static objectsb) Nuka-Colas obviously for that malt shop type of feelc) Clean card) Radio (Old World Radio Boston has plenty of buildable radios and maybe even a diner type radio station) Western Style Settlementa) A lot of what is done in Dry Gulch would work.b) Lever action rifle, revolvers such as a cavalry revolver or Remington 1858, double barreled shotgunc) Smaller scaled radscorpions Railroad SettlementI was thinking of Ticonderogaa) An exterior that looks bombed out and destroyed and nothing out of the ordinary. Something that you would pass by.b) An armor rack with a railroad coatc) More of a player home really than settlement to minimize traffic and detectiond) Sparse accommodations with minimal clutter on the inside, purified waters, a bed or two, some foode) Spy or slave runner type theme. What would go well with that? Maybe some railroad signs and/or a lit lantern somewhere signaling other Railroad agents
