Need serious help with my game. Keeps on freezing

I am wanting to go back to the original game because SE just doesn't have the great mods that the original has. Including mods that are not "of" the nexus site, and some may never reach or see the light of SE. With all that said, I am trying to use ENB to boost performance and mayhap the graphics of the original.

I hear great things about these graphic mods. I have read every piece of intel onto what to do, starting with RealVision, and my game can still not pass Whiterun. It keeps on freezing. So I erase and try Vivid landscapes, and it still freezes. I have tried uninstalling some heavy mods like Warzone, and even then, it still freezes. I do not know what to do!

Thus, I am of serious help. I'll start by showing my mod list:

If you're talking about the Special Edition, you should ask in the Special Edition forum. Our tips here are not going to be of much help.

If you're talking original Skyrim, then your system looks fine to me. Of course, this doesn't factor texture or graphics replacers. One thing I can say for certain is that uninstalling a mod like Warzones midsave is suicide for that save. I don't use most of the types of mods you have listed, so I can't say there, but the first thing I will ask is to make sure you have FNIS. You will certainly need it for those types of mods and will likely need a compatibility skeleton installed, such as this one. There are others, this is just a popular example.

Is the game actually freezing or is it straight up crashing?

It freezes whenever I reach up to Whiterun. I have to use alternative life to pass the vanilla because the prologue is that broken to get by (flying carts, dying horses, etc etc.)

What about ENB? Is that another reason why?

Also update from last night, I tried a new save file and went through the whiterun household as alternative life, and it CTD on me. Might be because I need to verify the game cahe to collect any missing files from all the ENBoost installation I've previously done and now I'm just using ENB.

Able to troubleshoot some things and the results are rather weird.

Open Cities lead to a infinite loop, and AI Overhaul crashes.

Now I have face bugs for the females, but I'm assuming that's due to the old texture boosts I was using, thus have to reinstall mature skin for the texture again

Your issue regarding the carts and horses sounds like a common bug that people get when their FPS goes over 60. The game's engine more or less breaks when the framerate goes over 60, so you have to limit it.

Again, did you install the compatibility skeleton? Is your FNIS version up to date (and did you include the "arm fix" when patching it)? With that many mods you will also likely need a Bashed and/or Merged Patch. As Kroekr suggested, run LOOT as well if you have not. You seem to be having a lot of random issues that I don't think I have the expertise to tie to one mod or one type of mod. You may have to disable them in chunks until you can narrow which one is causing your issue.

That said, it seems like Open Cities would affect many of the areas you're having trouble with. Open Cities, being as large as it is in scope, as a lot of compatibility patches for other mods. Have you insured that you have all that you need? I don't see any in your load order other than the one for Holidays.

RealShelter and RSPatch (you did run the patcher utility, right? It wouldn't crash your game or anything, but the mod wouldn't work correctly without it) should be at the end of your load order. You have both Vividian for Climates or Tamriel and Vanilla, and also Natural Lightings and Vivid Atmospherics, plus ELFX. I do not believe that these would cause a crash, but have you verified that this setup is compatible? Lastly, a lot of your sex mods may not be compatible. A lot of these mods aren't really vetted as well as others for compatibility. Are you sure that they are all compatible with each other? Just because they rely on the same framework and are recognized by FNIS does not mean that they won't step on each others' toes. These are just things to think about mostly, as I can't really come up with any specifics off the top of my head as to what could be responsible for your issues.

Well I finally figured out how to install the memory patch the right way, and testing from alternative to breezehome spawning, I'm able to load the full view of whiterun without CTD or freezing; however, I notice major lag when going outside the city and facing directly towards it. Seems very little I can do on that part, for this is an older engine with breakable flaws that cannot be met.

That's my old load order by the way. Took out all of ENB support with exception of ENB .308. Went through the STEP process under the older one, which is .292, but the game still works just fine. May try and attempt to reinstall some of those ENB mods, and this time, not copy/paste the enblocal.ini like I done before. I do believe that's the issue with all the crashing that kept on going.

Either that or all this CTD/Freeze crap is all due to the lack of a memory patch.

As for LOOT, I always run it. Though I have to move some mods around, like open cities and AI overhaul to the top of the list to ensure they're loaded first to prevent CTD or freezes. Two heavy mods out of Frostfall.

Skeleton mod is proper. I always run FNIS whenever new animations or skeletons are install/reinstall. Only thing that I've yet done is run TES5edit to clean the files that are dirty. For right now though, that's last priority until I get rid of this CTD/freezing. Unless that too is another reason it can happen.

Are you using the memory patch or Crash Fixes? Crash Fixes kind of makes the memory patch outdated by allowing Skyrim to tap into your total system memory, thus removing the memory limit instead of simply expanding it.

Now, keep in mind that this is will help with things like texture mods and other things that eat up memory, but if you have a lot of script mods, the Papyrus engine can get clogged and cause a lot of lag. Frostfall, while it is one of my favorite mods, is absolutely deadly on the Papyrus system because it uses so many scripts. A lot of the sex mods out there are heavily scripted too. The bad thing about that is disabling script mods midsave can cause issues like save bloat, crashes immediately or much later on down the road, and orphaned scripts that still affect the game even after the mod has been deactivated. This is the main reason people say not to disable mods midsave. A lot of script heavy mods have uninstall procedures to remove their scripts, and the Savegame Script Scalpel attempts to help manage delinquent scripts in existing saves.

That said, if script overload is an issue, I would download a clean save from the Nexus (just search for them, there are plenty just for this purpose) and disable the mods you think are script heavy, and load the save to see if your game is still having the issue. That can help narrow it down.

What is SDpatch - frostfall.esp and why is it located before Frostfall? If it's a patch, it should go after Frostfall.

Don't rely blindly on LOOT, as it's not perfect. The best is checking each mod's page for load order problems. Is Frosfall version 2.6 or lower (imcompatible with Frostfall) or a higher version? You are using plenty of mods that use heavy scripting. Do you have SSE or Old Rim (pre Sepcial edition)? SSE is 64-bit and help a lot to prevent CTD and freezes. If you have the 32-bit edition (Old Rim), even with tons of RAM in your computer and graphic card, you'll hit the 4 GB memory limit.

“Skyrim will crash at or around a reported 3.1 gigabytes of RAM usage, which is fairly widely known. Skyrim mirrors its active textures in memory, and since it is a 32-bit application with a 4GB memory limit, this constrains the total size of modded textures that are viably usable,” the post says. “The exact VRAM:RAM ratio is not known, but one metric reported was a texture pack taking up ~500MB VRAM would consume approximately 430MB physical RAM.” source: http://www.pcgamer.com/skyrim-special-edition-will-be-64-bit-promising-big-things-for-modders/

Are you using the memory patch or Crash Fixes? Crash Fixes kind of makes the memory patch outdated by allowing Skyrim to tap into your total system memory, thus removing the memory limit instead of simply expanding it.

Basically that's right - if you preload "crash fixes" and set "UseOSAllocators=1" in your crashfixplugin.ini, you don't need the memory patch. Having it still in your SKSE.ini wouldn't hurt either, since it's simply ignored. Problem is, that "UseOSAllocators=1" and preloading crash fixes doesn't necessarily make your game more stable. In my case it was counterproductive. It made my game crash more. So I went back to "UseOSAllocators=0" and the good old memory patch. You just have to test what works best for you. "Crash fixes" still helps a lot, even in combination with Shesons memory patch.

To the OP:

When working with ENB presets, never just copy a premade enblocal.ini. Adjust the values to your system.

Some other things I noticed:

- XPMSE is quite high in your load order. It should be as low as possible to make sure nothing from it is overwritten by anything.

- You got loads of script heavy mods. From what I've seen so far, I'd say you're "living on the razor's edge" concerning papyrus load. If it works, alright. But all those scripted mods together ARE risky IMHO.

- Don't use "ELFX weathers" together with "Climates of Tamriel". Since both change the weather, these are conflicting mods. Choose one or the other.

- I don't see a TES5MergedPatch and a bashed patch (created with Wrye Bash) in your load order. While the latter might not be of much use for yoo, since you haven't got many weapon and armor mods installed, that might lead to loot table conflicts, I'd recommend using a merged patch to minimize mod conflicts.

EDIT: Sry for necroing an old thread. Didn't look at the dates...
